  1. Easy to use
  2. Free
  3. Flexible
  4. Search Engine Optimization
  5. Plugins

So I’ve talked to a lot of different small business owners and I’ve seen them trying to create websites using a lot different programs from Dream Weaver to Microsoft -- has their own tools. I’ve actually found the best platform to use. It’s called Wordpress, and for a lot of different reasons.

Number one, it’s easy to use. So it’s super simple. You don’t need to flip through your ton of books, a ton of manuals to learn how to put your website together. You can basically just hit the ground running, get the pages that you want.

It’s also free. So that’s number two. Free is always good. I know, as a small business owner, you probably have a lot of different expenses. With this, you don’t have to pay for anything out of pocket. It’s actually free. All you have to pay for is the domain name.

Number three, it’s flexible. So you can go in at any time and basically anything you want with your website. So you don’t have to wait for, you know, the kid down the block or your web design company or whoever to go and actually change stuff. You can just go hop on, change whatever want, make the website look the way that you want it to look.

Number four is SEO. Search Engine Optimization is kind of a scary phrase for a lot of small business owners but Wordpress take all the complexity away from it and makes sure that all of your pages are set up in a way where people are going to be able to find you on Google, on Yahoo, on MSN. So Wordpress has all that built in right out of the box.

And lastly, plugins. So Wordpress has a feature called plugins which you can think of sort of like an iPhone app, where it just adds functionality to your website. And with plugins, you can do a whole ton of different things from contact forms to site analytics. So plugins really allows you to expand the functionality of your website.

So if you’re looking to start a new website as a small business owner, I would definitely go with Wordpress. You can go to or to get started.
