The Importance of Work Ethic In Business

Transcribed article based on the video above.

A couple years into Docstoc I still work long hours and I expect our team to work long hours too. I can’t over emphasize the importance of work ethic. The biggest reason is, there are so many things in business you can’t control. You can’t control market condition and you can’t control your competition, but the one thing we can always control is how much effort we put in.

What work ethic and hard work does is give you more swings at the plate. What I mean is, if you work 20%, 30%, 40%, longer, harder, and smarter than the person next to you, instead of getting three swings at the plate, you get four or five and in business that second or third interaction that you get a chance to be successful at is often the one that takes your business from not working to working.

So remember, there are a lot of things you can’t control but you can always control how much effort you put in and that’s the one thing you, I and all of us should always do our best at, to make sure that we are working harder than everybody next to us.
