Giving yourself the best chance of getting a job interview is all about personalization. It means you have a personalized resume. You want to make sure that your resume matches the roles and responsibilities of what they put on the job requirement, but it also means a lot of personalization of how you reach out to the people that are hiring for that job. Send them personalized emails, take time to write a personalized cover letter, send a hand written note with a gift basket to the hiring manager of the company.
There are so many applicants that are going to be applying for any given job that you want to do anything that gives you a competitive advantage, makes you stand out, makes you separated in the hiring managers eyes. If you do that with a lot of personalization and a personal touch, this may mean being more persistent than other people, it may mean you do things that no one else will do, you’re going to stand out from the rest of the pack. You will definitely never hurt your chances and you could definitely help your chances a lot.
