What to Look for In Employees

There are 3 things I look for in every employee that I hire and I’ve given this speech to every employee I’ve hired, they are:
- That they’re the best at what they do: it’s really important that when you hire folks you get A+ talent and not just for all the platitudes that everyone says. The reason why it’s so important is that the people that you bring onto your team know that every other person that was hired before them and is going to get hired after is the best at what they do and that standard of excellence is something that’s uncompromising and unyielding.
- NO ASSHOLES: in a small business, 1, 5, 20, 50, 100 employees. One person can completely effect and ruin the company culture. So there’s just no room for people that have passive aggressive attitudes or are going to be mean or rude to folks or don’t always go the extra mile. No matter how talented they are, just don’t hire them.
- We always work harder than everybody else: In a startup and small business no matter how well your doing you’re always fighting for your life and if someone else is working 10 hours were going to work 12, if they’re working 12 were going to work 15
And if you find those 3 characteristics were they’re the best at what they do, No assholes, and people that have the best work ethic. You’ve got the recipe for hiring great employees.
