So I work with a lot of small business owners and entrepreneurs and sometimes they’ll ask me, do I still need to do e-mail marketing? Isn’t that kind of old news? And it’s not. There are five reasons that e-mail marketing is still huge.
One is that it can boost sales. So you’re having a direct line of communication to put out whatever this is that you have going on in your business. It’s a reminder; you’re in front of your clients.
And another thing is you can reconnect with customers. So maybe you have someone that you did business with a year ago and they know you, they’re happy with you but they just haven’t needed you in a while and you haven’t been in front of their face. So here you are with an e-mail that provides some kind of information. It’s a reminder that you’re still around. You know, like, “Oh yeah, I’ve worked with this person. I’m comfortable with him.” And so, it’s a way of getting some of those customers back that you’ve already worked with.
Another thing is that it’s establishing authority. So you are regularly engaging your clients and letting them know that you know about what it is that you’re selling. And obviously, it’s something that they’re interested in because they’re buying it. So putting that out there, providing informative articles further establishes that authority and that’s important.
It’s also a direct and personal contact. So you’re – although we’re all overwhelmed with tons of e-mails, it’s you showing up in their e-mail, signed by you, your company, directly to them and, you know. And you can also set up your e-mail marketing so that the salutation shows their name, and that’s great as well. You know, Dear Bob or whoever it is with the communication and signed by you.
And it’s also a great and easy way to generate leads and referrals. Because you’re sending this out – usually these are people that you know or they’ve signed up for your list and they may not need you right now but maybe their best friend is dealing with something that you can help with. And it’s very easy for them to just forward that e-mail on to whoever this other person is and it’s coming from someone they trust so the referral potential is fantastic.
So these are five reasons that e-mail marketing really is a fabulous way to get your business out there.
