If you’re an entrepreneur like me, you’re probably a bit of a control freak. You probably feel like you know everything and not necessarily that you need to do everything but you want to be aware of it. I have this moment in one of my companies, it was doing okay. I don’t want you to think we have IPO it yet or anything. So, you know, it’s going to happen sooner than you think where you just can’t keep it on your head. You can’t remember exactly who you’re supposed to get back to. You’re going to lose track of a deal, something will happen, and that’s the moment you need to learn to let go because if you don’t, your company is never going to succeed and grow. That’s the moment you need to make sure your team is empowered and you need to find a simple process to get status from them as opposed to telling them what to do.
So you need to know what those areas are, seed control them and then find a way to feel comfortable that you know what’s going on and that’s not that 2 a.m. in the morning call, that’s meeting, the process, whatever you want to call it. But if you don’t, your company is not going to be successful at that next stage.
