Using offshore talent is often a challenge for companies that haven’t done it before. You know even the experienced companies that have been at multiple times often stumble and there are few ways that you can really take full advantage of using an offshore team.
One is to provide very clear instructions. So you know you want to be explicit in what you’re asking them to do as much as possible alright. We don’t want to leave too much ambiguity simply because there’s a lot of differences in the cultures and you can’t assume that the assumptions that they make are going to be the same as the ones that you will make.
Next you want to make sure that you communicate with them directly and verbally and what I mean by that is you don’t want to just rely purely on e-mail for everything or even IM or you know things along those lines. One because you know they might not be in the same timezone as you right. So if you’re relying on e-mail they e-mail you back you know you might end up losing a complete day and secondly because you know there’s certain things that can be heard in your voice that can’t be understood in written communication.
And finally you know you want you really need to see the work as early and as often as possible and the reason for that is you don’t want to end up with something that you didn’t want at the end of the project alright . If you’re off track you want to discover that and corrected as early as possible. So those are the tips that I would recommend to anybody when managing offshore talent.
