Abstract The last presidential election of Dmitry Medvedev as Russia's new president has raised many questions. One of the most important issue is wether the ballot was truly democratic or not. In the judgement of The West mass media communications it wasn’t. All these media hold the opinion that the election was unfair and designed by the Kremlin in advances. This literature review examines the opinions of the West mass media concerning the last presidential election in Russia and further power separation between two presidents, the new and the old one, displays the opinions of the Russians on this election, and reveals the nature of their choice. These brief examinations are indispensable for a better insight into the current political situation in Russia and understanding Russia’s status as a democratic country.
