  • POLITICAL BASES OF EDUCATION
    POLITICAL BASES OF EDUCATION

    $45.99

    Document Overview:
Politics in education provision has not been given prominent role in higher education institutions of learning, especially in teachers colleges. Politicians claim that politics should not be linked to education provision and for this reason education providers do not include political studies in the school curriculum. Another observation is that higher institutions academics who know better through their academic knowledge acquisition also shy away from active poltical activities. This is a very unfortunate outlook to politics in education because politics influence education provision in all societies. It is the hope of the authors of this book that there should be a new look at politics and education provision so that political education is infused into academic curricula at all levels of instittions - schools, colleges and universities - worldwide so that those who venture into politics after their education know what contribution they should make towards the political, social and economic development of their countries. The new millennium needs politically informed politicians to engage in the political game. Poltical Bases of Education is recommended as a textbook for schools in the new millennium for building a solid foundation for political education.

  • ACTION RESEARCH IN VIRTUAL COMMUNITIES:
    ACTION RESEARCH IN VIRTUAL COMMUNITIES:

    $19.99

    Document Overview:
Contextually, all tertiary institutions have four major responsibilities – teaching, research, publication and community service. The adage “publish or perish” has become a thorn in the flesh of many university academic staff who rest on their laurels and do nothing about research, publication and community engagement. Practising university academic staff are required by the nature of their profession to engage in regular research be it in their daily lecturing and supervision of students’ research thesis or writing for publication. Currently, research has become the buzz-word in all tertiary institutions but not all of them take the pains to school academic staff in the practice of research in terms of the virtual communities where the institution is located. In the context of this paper, the author looks at action research through the eyes of teachers of all categories in virtual communities and how their involvement can complement successful social networking. The approaches used in this discussion are purely from empirical and exploratory perspectives and provide detailed discussion with emphasis on the application of action research for effective and efficient social networking considering the social, cultural, organizational and human cognitive perspectives.

  • Theory Development for the enhancement of professional practice:
Theory Development for the enhancement of professional practice:

    $19.99

    Document Overview:
Theories, by their nature, are problem statements and call for solutions. To get to the solutions there is need to hypothesize about the problem statement and carry on with a research which may or may not lead to solutions. It may even reveal further theories for added solutions. This characteristic of theories creates a cyclical spiral to all forms of theories which may lead to understanding or additional confusion or both. Theories become ideas and assumptions that explain phenomena and may create further unexplained phenomena. Practitioners of education must have general and specific knowledge and understanding of the norms and goals of theories that govern their practice. A comprehensive knowledge of the methods of scientific enquiry of theory development and of the pertinent criteria for evaluating theories for practical application must be thoroughly understood and applied. Understanding of the development of theories is essential for any professional practitioner who may wish to implement well-grounded theoretical knowledge to contribute to the expansion of the knowledge serviceable to human kind. This paper posits that critical examination and assessment of the validity of accumulated knowledge are necessary; that those theoretical and methodological problems which preclude the testability of a theory and the interpretation of empirical findings must be explored to increase the likelihood that research will be replicated in order to examine the accuracy of the empirical support claimed for theoretical predictions and the examination of the validity of cumulative knowledge for subsequent application. Here lies the need for the development of theories for professional practice.

AFRICAN RENAISSANCE IN THE CONTEMPORARY ERA OF THE AFRICAN UNION: RE-THINKING STRATEGIES FOR AFRICA'S INDUSTRIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

    $19.99

    Document Overview:
The blaming of colonialism, neo-colonialism and the multi-national corporations' sabotage of Africa's political, social, industrial and economic development must be something of the past in the new millennium. Introspectively, there is absolute need for re-think and re-strategize in terms of approaches, methods and techniques about implementation plans for sustainable and equitable development in Africa. In every respect - institutional resources, raw materials, skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labour, material and human resources - Africa has all these potentials in abundance to stand on its own feet to initiate its political, social, industrial and economic development agenda in the new millennium. Dependency on foreign assistance from the same colonialists and imperialists for Africa's development should be limited or completely curtailed for obvious reasons. This empirical survey research paper presents recorded and observable evidence enlightened by analytical syhthesis of the potential Africa has to trigger its development through its regional blocks. This analysis will be supported by case studies, concrete sources with scholarly argument to make a contribution to the debate towards the industrial and economic development of Africa in the era of the African Renaissance under the auspices of the African Union.

TEACHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR AFRICA IN THE 21ST CENTURY: WHAT FORM SHOULD IT TAKE?

    $19.99

    Document Overview:
No nation can develop beyond the quality of its education system, which depends on the quality of teachers. Much of what teachers need to know to be successful is invisible to lay observers leading to the view that teaching requires little formal study. On the contrary, teachers seek answers to questions to enable them help students learn. They learn about literature and appropriate technology, curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, evaluation and measurement. What they offer remains a secret and their key to success is mystery. This paper argues that 21st century teachers require new initiatives in their preparation to adequately meet the challenges and that we would need stronger, all inclusive globalized teacher education and training curricula and global teachers council to strengthn the teaching profession for easy mobility of teachers in the 21st century.
