Designing a Group Exercise Module 5 Group Design

    $20.00

    From:Julie Snow

    Document Overview:
Group exercises can be useful tools to facilitate growth and behavior changes (Hagedorn & Hirshhorn, 2009). Exercises with the help of a leader direct the behaviors, discussions, and attention of the group. Group exercises can be implemented at any stage and should be adapted to the needs of the group, age level, culture, and complexity of group members (Jacobs, Masson & Harvill, 2009). In this paper I will examine a group exercise and the use of the exercise in a group.

    1) Corey’s' counseling group. How would the Corey’s' group have been different if they had Consider the exercises described in the Jacobs et al. chapters and the videotape of the incorporated more exercises? Why do you think they did not? What guidelines does this suggest to you for decisions about whether and when to use structured exercises in a group? I think that if they had included warm-up exercises the groups comfort level would have been improved and the group leaders could have been provided with more useful information. When you get to know your group members better it gives you hints as to which areas to focus. Every group leader has their own methods but I think that the Corey’s felt they had cohesiveness in their group. They did hold a pre-group meeting which we did not get to see.

  • Cultural COMMUNICATION
    Cultural COMMUNICATION

    $20.00

    $20.00

    From:Julie Snow

    Document Overview:
Communication can be used as a foundation for cultural understanding and shared improvements among clients of cultural diversity. If communication is not used properly it could become grounds for aggravation, misunderstanding, and cultural conflict. Cross-cultural communication occurs when more than one participant is culturally diverse. Understanding verbal and non-verbal communication is crucially significant to be competent cross-culturally. While it is not possible to be familiar with communication in all cultures, clinicians need to be sensitive to cultural diversity in the workplace and be careful not to stereotype their clients. In this paper I will discuss that clinicians who are successful communicators are also culturally competent (Le Roux, 2002).

  • COMORBIDITY AND THE SELF-MEDICATION HYPOTHESIS
    COMORBIDITY AND THE SELF-MEDICATION HYPOTHESIS

    $20.00

    $20.00

    From:Julie Snow

    Document Overview:
Comorbidity, co-occurring, and dual diagnosis are all defined as an individual having at least two separate conditions (Valderas, Starfield, Sibbald, Salisbury, & Roland, 2009). Self-medication has been defined as using a substance or a drug to relieve the symptoms of anxiousness, stress, and mental illness. E.J. Khantzian describes this action as self soothing to manage the distress of uncontrollable psychological problems, hence the self medication hypothesis (SMH). This self-medication can lead to addiction (Suh, Ruffins, Robins, Albanese, & Khantzian, 2008).Over the past 25 years clinical research has been done on the comorbidity of substance abuse and mental illness. These studies show consistently high rates of the use of substances in individuals with mental illness. It is well known that these rates are higher in these populations but the reasons are still unclear. In this paper I will examine the self-medication hypothesis in relation to co-occurrence of mental illness and drug abuse, and evidence of selection of ‘drugs of choice.’
