REASONS, DEVELOPMENT AND LEGITIMACY OF BORROWINGS IN POLISH

    Document Overview:
Any natural language includes both native words and a certain amount of foreign or non-native words or expressions entering the national lexis. It may be contributed to the fact that not a single nation develops in isolation. Each country having its own national language and national identity still has to maintain certain political, cultural, commercial or scientific contacts with other countries, which causes that different linguistic forms are continuously penetrating from one language into another. As a result, there is not a single language with completely ‘pure’ vocabulary. Each language shares certain amount of its vocabulary to the international contacts and none of them is free from foreign influences within the scope of vocabulary i.e. borrowings. As regards language users, they tend to perceive the surrounding reality from the angle of their own language. Thus, each national language is deeply rooted in different culture of its users. It means that each national language has a profound influence both on linguistic and cultural society of its users. Because of the above, it is logically justified that the culture of the language users is also reflected in semantic developments of words functioning in their native language. Apart from vocabulary, grammar is also an important factor affecting and determining linguistic perception of the surrounding reality. All in all, linguistic perception differs between different language users. However, as all nations are more or less forced to co-exist, these differences become more apparent and affect certain areas of international contacts. Such state of affairs leads us to the problem of borrowings. This paper is an attempt to systematize a large amount of information on borrowings (loanwords) in different languages. Special emphasis will be put to English borrowings functioning in Polish and their continuous expansion. In the beginning, this thesis is to explain the most important definitions of borrowings present

    Document Overview:
Modernizing a retail solution by implementing integrated point-of-sale, online and ERP back-office platforms This dissertation looks at the current Information Technology project management practices in relation to different size companies. The practicalities and benefits of adhering to best practices are analysed using a case-study. The case concerns the implementation of a retail system at a medium UK wholesale/retail company. The system replaced the out-dated software, linked the web and retail platforms, and ultimately introduced CRM to the company. The implementation was based on modernizing the IT infrastructure and developing its own in-house retail application. The new system enhanced the company’s web presence, gave staff and customers access to up-to-date information, insured compliance with secure payments legislation, and streamlined the shop floor processes. The case highlights the dynamics of the relation between business and technology, and the value and limitations of best practice in project management.
