As this paper points out motivation is not only something that the employer wants the employees to possess, but it is something that employees themselves want as well. Nobody wants to drag themselves into a workplace and perform tasks they are not motivated to do, just as nobody wants to be in charge of a team that has no motivation to perform its designated tasks. This paper breaks down the relationship between an employee and their work and looks at the little things that may or may not motivate, while taking into account the fact that not everyone is motivated by the same things. Some of the ideas posited are fairly obvious and universal such as positive reinforcement, others may be harder to recognize such as a need specific to one individual.
