The Department of Human Services (DHS) was created to restructure the public sector in South Australia, working with the government and community members of this geographical region. It deals with health, housing, and the support/protection of individuals through public policy and legislation.
The government began a policy called Purchasing Strategically, which aims to improve procurement practices for DHS to make sure the money is being used effectively. An Accredited Purchasing Panel (APP) had been established, which implements expert procurement advice, support, and general checks and balances for procurement practices and decision makers. The Strategic Procurement Reform Strategy was formed to ensure value for money, fair competition, integrity, client services, risk management, accountability, simplicity, and emphasis on utilizing local industry.
