A skills assessment matrix is a powerful and effective means of assessing the performance of a teacher. There are many different facets to a teacher and their performance. This skills assessment matrix looks at all of those and puts them under the microscope in a means to get a better idea of a teacher's performance as well as their strengths and weaknesses. The first area of the matrix is instructional skills. These cover the educational aspects of being a teacher. Are they teaching the curriculum and are they doing so effectively? The next area of the matrix is the assessment skills. This looks more at the manner of the teacher. Do they provide feedback to their students? The matrix also looks at management skills and lastly professionalism. The teacher is going to want to exceed performance expectations in these areas as it shows they are doing their job successfully and as they should. They don't want any areas of their teaching to be marked as unsatisfactory. This would indicate they are failing their student in a certain area.
