I am a new media lawyer. I started out my career as a commercial lawyer with Werksmans Incorporated and left to start my own practice, Jacobson Attorneys, in August 2005. On 1 August 2007 I launched a new media law and policy focus area in Jacobson Attorneys. This new emphasis for my work as a lawyer draws on my experience with social media and my legal training to provide what I believe is a pretty interesting service to anyone involved in the new media space. In January 2008 I was appointed General Counsel and Company Secretary for iCommons. iCommons is an organisation with a broad vision to develop a united global commons front by collaborating with open education, access to knowledge, free software, open access publishing and free culture communities around the world. As General Counsel and Company Secretary I advise the Executive Director and the Board on a range of legal, regulatory and policy issues.
