When John Amicucci joined DeFoe Corp. in 1973, the company had already been in operation for 27 years. Founded as a specialty contractor, the company grew into a multimillion-dollar enterprise with private and government clients. Under the leadership of John Amicucci, President and CEO since 1992, the DeFoe organization maintains a reputation for completing challenging projects on or under budget and on or ahead of schedule. As such, the Mount Vernon, New York-based firm has become one of the most respected heavy-construction businesses in the region, with expertise in major reconstruction, rehabilitation, and new-construction projects. Prior to John Amicucci’s leadership, DeFoe Corp. was a leader in heavy civil contracting during the development of the interstate highway system in the 1950s. Focusing on highways, bridges, transportation and transit, deep foundations, and utilities, DeFoe also became a pioneer in the art and science of architectural concrete. Today, DeFoe takes on projects throughout the New York metropolitan and tri-state area. John Amicucci oversees 500 employees and the company’s relationships and contracts with such clients as the New York State Thruway Authority, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the New York State Department of Transportation. In his tenure with DeFoe Corp., John Amicucci has served as a Class A Long-Boom Crane Operator, Heavy-Equipment Operator, Project Superintendent, and Equipment Supervisor. He also acted as Executive Vice President for 10 years. Since John Amicucci took the reins at DeFoe, the company has completed nearly $776 million in projects. The executive also founded Paterno & RCA Asphalt, where he holds the position of Chairman.
