Highly experienced in minimally invasive surgical techniques, Dr. Gustavo Stringel currently serves as Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Pediatric Surgery at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. In addition to this influential position, Dr. Stringel acts as Surgeon in Chief at the medical institution. Among other notable accomplishments, he has increased the number and complexity of pediatric surgical cases accepted at the hospital for eight consecutive years. Moreover, Dr. Gustavo Stringel has proven instrumental in the hiring of a wide variety of specialists, including professionals with advanced training in liver transplantation surgery, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, and anesthesiology, among others. In his directorial capacity, Dr. Stringel has also developed and shaped the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery. As part of these efforts, he helped acquire new, state-of-the-art surgical tools, including Storz OR 1 equipment and da Vinci robotic surgical equipment. In addition to his tremendous responsibilities with Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, Dr. Gustavo Stringel serves as a tenured Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at New York Medical College. In this position, Dr. Stringel supervises medical students as well as surgical and pediatric residents, and he collaborates with the Director of the Surgery Residency Program to design and implement core curricula, including courses covering the six primary areas of specialty defined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Before he joined Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and New York Medical College, Dr. Gustavo Stringel lent his expertise to prominent medical and educational institutions such as the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical School, where he served for five years as an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics. He also spent six years at the University of Ottawa and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, where he acted as Assistant Professor of Surgery and Academic Pediatric Surgeon, respectively. Nationally recognized by such renowned entities as Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. and Marquis Who’s Who, Dr. Gustavo Stringel holds an impressive number of licenses and certifications, including the prestigious Certified Physician Executive (CPE) designation from the Certifying Commission in Medical Management. Dr. Stringel earned an MD from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst Isenberg School of Management.
