Well respected by fellow lawyers for his thoroughness and mastery of the facts in the cases he handles, attorney Douglas Borthwick serves as General Counsel for LumpSumIn Relocation Incorporated, as well as leading his own practice, Freeman & Borthwick, in California’s Orange County. He is admitted to practice in all state and U.S. District Courts in California; the Ninth, Tenth, and Federal Circuits of the Court of Appeals; and the United States Supreme Court. He also holds inactive licensures in several other states. Attorney Douglas Borthwick brings an extensive range of experience to his clients in corporate and individual litigation, including personal injury defense, accidents of all sorts, and product liability; in addition, he has prevailed for his clients in numerous arbitrations and mediations. An excellent student, Douglas Borthwick won the Wall Street Journal Award, the Adam Smith Award, and the Financial Executive Award as an undergraduate studying Economics, Business, and Religion at Muskingum College (now University) in Southeastern Ohio. He graduated magna cum laude in 1988 and entered Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Borthwick’s record of academic excellence continued in law school, where he won an academic scholarship and a public service award, and sat on the Moot Court Board. Mr. Borthwick’s academic performance earned him a spot on the dean’s list, and he was the Business Manager for Res Ipsa Loquitur, the school newspaper. Mr. Borthwick served as a legal intern with the Franklin County Public Defender's Office while attending law school. He also served in the law school legal clinic. He earned his Juris Doctor in 1991. Following his graduation from law school, Douglas Borthwick joined the AV rated Law Offices of Garrett & Jensen, in Santa Ana, California, as an associate attorney. He handled civil litigation matters, including arbitrations, settlement conferences with other lawyers, and depositions, in such areas as estate planning and probate, workers’ compensation defense, and federal RICO cases. Attorney Borthwick also assisted clients with drafting contracts and wills, debt collection, and family and criminal court matters. Douglas Borthwick belongs to several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
