Dirk is a nationally-recognized expert in B Corporations. He is Drafting Author of B Lab's Benefit Corporation White Paper, the legislative memorandum used to advocate for the benefit corporation legal entity, and Author of several scholarly treatises on B Corporation legal strategy. His thought leadership has been featured numerous times in Entrepreneur Magazine, Forbes, and other leading outlets, and he is a sought-after speaker at the nation's sustainable business conferences. As Founder at B Revolution, a family of enterprises dedicated to building the B Corporation movement, he regularly leads workshops on B Corporation business and legal strategy for investors, management executives, and attorneys. He has been keynote, judge, or panel moderator for Brown University SEEED Conference, Sustainable Business Council, Sustainatopia, Wall Street Green Summit, and other regional and national events. In 2010, he was awarded the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law's Monroe Gumer Fellowship for his work on benefit corporations. Dirk received his JD and MBA as a Dean's Scholar at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, where he studied corporate governance under Myron Steele, Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court. Prior to attending graduate school, Dirk founded Citizens Social Justice, 501(c)(3), where he invented The Golden Door, a transitional housing and educational rehabilitation program for homeless individuals; a graduate research fellowship program focused on local social justice issues; and G-Harmony, an innovative web-based service provider networking resource. In 2011, CSJ acquired HomeVan, a mobile emergency services provider for the chronically homeless.
