Interview with Frank Bruce, CEO, PeopleKey Pty. Ltd
PeopleKey employs a modular approach to hardware and software design. Our main hardware product is the V70i fingerprint scanner. The V70i boasts US government certified fingerprint matching algorithms, an extremely efficient processor, and a 500dpi sensor. The V70i can be equipped with internal or external card readers, and its ample memory is expandable via a simple USB flash drive.
Interview with Phil Tusa, Vice President, Biometrics Programs, AOptix Technologies Inc
The technology founders of AOptix were leaders in the development of Adaptive Optics in the field of astronomy, specifically deep space imaging. They pioneered the invention and application of this at the University of Hawaii, which is the world’s leading institution for Adaptive Optics in astronomy. we migrated to a strategy of developing a commercial iris recognition product that operates at a nominal 2 meter standoff distance, which We felt would be the ideal distance for a wide range of cooperative identification and authentication applications.
Interview with Gerry Euston, CEO, Ceelox Inc
Ceelox ID is easy to use Identity Access Management software that seamlessly integrates with Windows Active Directory. ID creates a biometric Single Sign On that pushes user credentials to networks and programs. ID creates true audit trails while eliminating the need for multiple passwords and reducing costly help desk password administration.
findBIOMETRICS.com | Year In Review 2008
The response to this year’s YIR was our largest ever with 65 companies/industry experts responding to our questionnaire. This is 20% higher than our review in 2007! We received responses from Canada, Spain, Russia, Australia, China, Ireland, Brazil, Hong Kong, Sweden, Mexico, Germany, UK, Israel, The Netherlands, Lithuania, Singapore, France, Korea, Japan, Italy, Malaysia and the USA.
Stanley Kim, Senior Vice President, RF Logics Inc
RF Logics proudly launched the XAD Series this year, a single operation platform for biometrics, access control and video surveillance management. This major product release has been in the works for the past 3 years and we are tremendously excited about the response we have received to date! We have embedded the access control and video surveillance OS into the system by maximizing IT and invested infrastructures and by not using any middleware servers or video bridging software.
Interview with John Petze, CEO, Privaris Corporation
One of them directly relates to our current product plusID. It has to do with research and development we did around ways to improve the reliability of using a swipe sensor by having a finger guide and the finger guide design that is actually embodied in our product is one of the patents. In our research and we showed that it dramatically reduced false reject rates. The second patent is not directly related to plusID. It is related to how fingerprints can be used on other portable devices and has to do directly with the concept of using touch screen technology to recognize fingerprints.
Interview with John Cassise, CEO, Innometriks Inc
The Lumidigm sensor gives us a lot of flexibility in addressing difficult applications, especially those with a rugged environment requirement because the unit can mount directly outdoors. Lumidigm has the first fingerprint sensor technology that will just work no matter what you’re dealing with. Whether it’s outside, whether it’s damaged fingers, whether it’s a wide range of users, we’ve had tremendous success in being able to just walk in and set the product on the table and say, "give us the worst case scenario."
Interview with Torsten Nordentoft, Technical Director, CardLab ApS
We are a group of investors who invest in different kinds of technologies and one of the partners had this idea about whether it would be possible to have biometric recognition on a credit card. We initially started by looking at what kind of patents were in this field and we found that there were a number of companies who had filed their patents for the last fifteen years for biometric recognition and also dynamic magnetic stripes.
Interview with Bill Bartlett, Manager of US Government and Civil Programs, Identifications Solutions Division, NEC Corporation of America
NEC recently released PIDplus version 2.0 with enhanced functionalities. One of the most important updates is the ability to do software-based latent matching. We can also now extract minutia templates from the images inside the PID system. We have enhanced all the capabilities -- redundancy, expandability -- and we have also implemented the ability to use multiple algorithms. The key to this is having several algorithms in the system that allow you to try different combinations of matching to improve your accuracy level based on the specific data.
Interview with Terry Wheeler, President and COO of Identica Holdings Corporation
About 20 months ago we teamed with Unisys Canada to deploy a biometric credentialing and access control database system (CACDS) utilizing Identica's hand VPR technology. With Identica's Vascular Pattern Scanners (VP-II) and HID iCLASS smart cards, the Port of Halifax will significantly strengthen its security and manage workforce access control.
Interview with James Lee, CEO, Suprema, Inc
Our revenue has increased at a CAGR of 96.3% since 2004, and in sales, export accounts for about two thirds of the total sales. Our customer base is widely distributed worldwide across Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa/Middle East. Our core fingerprint recognition technology has also received international acclaims, earning top ranking at the last two Fingerprint Verification Competition (FVC 2004 & 2006), the world's largest, bi-annual evaluations of fingerprint matching technologies.
Interview with Peter DiMaria, CEO Accu-Time Systems Inc
The acquisition of the two-finger geometry technology from BioMet Partners has strengthened our capabilities and added several patents to those we have already been awarded. Our main biometric offering is finger scan and finger geometry. The Global Series, including the Optimus, Maximus and Prodigy, currently offers three finger print biometric options, allowing our customers to provide the ideal solution for each unique situation.
Interview with Scott S. A. Coby, CEO Triad Biometrics LLC
People will ultimately realize that the digital templates stored are really a series of O’s and 1’s from which one cannot reverse engineer a fingerprint image. Another industry problem that has to be dealt with is the fact that since Windows is such a popular platform, its innate shortcomings place a significant impediment with respect to a pure biometric logon. You see, when someone, for example, swipes his finger for logon on his imbedded reader on his notebook, he is actually releasing a Kerberos password which is a requirement for Windows to open. If there were an authentication API available for Windows logon, this industry wide problem could be averted.
Interview with Lewis Levey, President and CEO, Computime, Inc
The core Topaz technology is in the capture, binding and verification of a handwritten signature with forensic qualities in the context of any electronic form, document or receipt. This includes both a robust SDK (Sig Plus) that enables rapid application development and the most diverse number of signature pads that yield multiple choices. The software and hardware have numerous patents and patents pending.
Interview with Rod Heitmeyer, ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization)
Standardization is essential to the global interoperability of MRTDs. It allows all countries passports and other travel documents to be examined and their integrity established by both visual examination and machine reading, including the checking of biometrics with the new eMRTDs. It greatly facilitates checking the identity and nationality of the person presenting the document, improves the quality of facilitation by speeding up inspection, and enhances the level of enforcement and security. The high level of technology incorporated in the MRTD standards has steadily improved the level of security offered. This is particularly evident in the new biometric ePassport.
