"A Night at the Opera," starring the Marx Brothers, is one of the funniest films ever done. Though many people prefer the Paramount films of the Marx Brothers, this writer considers "A Night at the Opera" the best of the Marx Brothers. This is a nice study guide with questions about the film for students. The Brothers' producer, Irving Thalberg, insisted on a more structured plot for the boys' films at MGM, which included a love story and music. Here the theme is opera, specifically "Il Trovatore," and you've never seen such a mess in your life. My favorite part is the substitution of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for the overture, with Groucho selling peanuts. And let's not forget Harpo climbing the curtain. The synopsis of the plot here is excellent, very complete, and gives the reader a clear view of the Marx Brothers and the film - and why it's a must see.
