 INCOME:


 Starting Income: $ 40,000
 Maximum Income: $ 400,000
 Method of Payment: By salary or contract
 Benefits: Paid vacation days, dental coverage, and
 contributions to retirement plans. Doctors who work
 in private practice must provide their own benefits.

SKILLS REQUIRED
 Skills Needed:
    Multidisciplinary teamwork
    Business and financial management
    Committee work
    Interpersonal skills
    Community involvement
 Certifications: Complete certification exams administered by the Royal College
  of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), or the Corporation
  professionnelle des médecins du Québec (CPMC) in Quebec. They also have to
  meet provincial licensing requirements.
 Skills Needed to Advance Higher: To specialize in particular area, one has to
  complete a 4-7 years program.
 Tasks in job:
      Interviewing the patient to find his/her medical history
      Conducting physical examinations
      Diagnose the problem or suggest a treatment program.
      Prescribing medications.
      Administrative work.
      Provide emergency care.
      Advise patients and their families on health care including health promotion,
       disease, illness and accident prevention.

Working Environment & Conditions
 Where do I work: In their own offices, hospitals and or clinics.
 Hazards? :
    Dangerous equipments.
    Wrong medications.
    One’s life is on the line.
    Clean and sanitized equipments.
    Computers
    Patients.
 Safety/Protective Equipment:
    Sterile gloves.
    Surgical masks.
    Lab coat.
    Sanitizer.
 Any Machines/Equipments:
    Stethoscope.
    Blood Pressure cuff (Sphygmomanometer)
    Thermometer.
    Syringe.
    Surgical instruments if necessary.
 Alone or with others? : If working private than alone or maybe with an assistant or
  nurse. In hospitals it is also alone except when doing surgery
 A busy season/off season: They must be ready to serve their patients at any time.
  Nevertheless if there is a riot, brawl or a natural catastrophe then the doctor will be busy
  and or during fall when the flu is really common.

     Bachelor’s Degree.
     Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD).
     Residency Program.
     Qualifying examinations of the Medical Council of Canada.
     To specialize in particular area (another residency program).
  How long will it take:
     2 – 3 years.
     4 years.
     4 years
     3-4 years.
     Less than a year.
     4-7 years (depending on the area of specialization)
     Total = about 15 year
  Places to take courses:
     University of British Columbia (UBC).
     Vancouver Fraser Medical Program.
  What will it cost : $ 18,324
  Scholarships/Bursaries:
     Chancellor's Entrance Scholarship - $20,000 (Over 4 yrs) – min ‘A’
     National Entrance Scholarship - $14,000 (Over 4 yrs) – min avg. 90%

      LAWYER

INCOME:
 Starting Income: $ 20,000
 Maximum Income: $ 225,000
 Method of Payment:
   First year lawyers are typically paid a salary as are
    those who work for government agencies or as
    corporate lawyers for large companies.
   Most lawyers who work for law firms are paid
    according to the number of hours they work.
   Partners at law firms usually get a percentage of
    the firm’s profits as well.
 Benefits? : Health care, life insurance, sick
  leave, days–off etc.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
 Skills needed for job:
       Leadership
       Community Involvement
       Interpersonal Skills
       Committee Work
 Certifications: After graduating from law school, you still need to
  work for approximately 1 year as an articling student, under the
  direction of licensed lawyers (fortunately, you usually get paid for
  this) before you can become a licensed lawyer. You must also
  successfully complete the bar admission program.
 Skills Needed to Advance Higher:
       Strong analytical skills.
       Good people skills
       The ability to work well under pressure
       A logical thinker who enjoys arguments and complex ideas.
 Tasks in Job:
     Plead cases or conduct prosecutions before courts of law,
      tribunals/boards, and negotiate civil dispute settlements.
     Provide legal advice and represent clients.
     Prepare contracts, wills, and other legal documents.
     May act as executors, trustees or guardians in estate/family law matters.
