                                    DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

1) RELATIONSHIP TO STRUCTURE AND MISSION: The Director of Operations will seek to:
     (a) Understand and support the Values and Mission of St. Paul’s
     (b) Understand, support, and implement the Strategic Plan of St. Paul’s
     (c) Demonstrate a personal commitment to a life of Discipleship.
     (d) Be a leader who develops other leaders
     (e) Report to the Senior Pastor
     (f) Work closely with the Congregation Council.
     (g) Supervise and facilitate the administrative operations of the congregation.


2) FACILITIES MANAGEMENT: The Director of Operations will:
     a) Have primary responsibility to oversee existing church facilities and assets
     b) Work with the Property Committee and the Building Manager to oversee the cleaning,
         maintenance, and repair of existing facilities
     c) Facilitate the planning and development of all new facilities.
     d) Serve as the purchasing agent to place major equipment orders as needed with various
         suppliers
     e) Negotiate service agreements, supply contracts, and other business arrangements as
         needed.
     f) Provide for effective facility usage; including scheduling, access, and security for all building
         users.


3) FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: The Director of Operations will:
      a) Work with the Accountant, Treasurer and Finance Team to oversee financial accounting
         practices and personnel; including congregational income, payroll, and accounts payable.
      b) Select and maintain software and other tools to review cash flows, financing needs, and
         reporting.
      c) Provide feedback to Congregation Council and Staff on financial positions in each area, key
         trends, decision points, and coordinate budget preparation.
      d) Maintain relationships with banking institutions, insurance providers, equipment vendors,
         and similar organizations, ensuring availability of financial resources for all church
         operations.
      e) Assist in the design and execution of programs to improve congregational stewardship to
         meet funding needs.
      f) Provide for review of the contents inventory annually and make insurance coverage
         changes as needed.
      g) Work to enhance the work of the Memorial Committee and the St. Paul’s Endowment Board.


4) HUMAN RESOURCES: The Director of Operations will:
     a) Work with the Personnel Team and Senior Pastor to oversee the payment of salaries and
        benefits
     b) Administer the provisions in the Employee Handbook and other personnel policies.
     c) Assist in the preparation and review of annual ministry plans, assist with performance
        reviews, ensure proper staffing, and make recommendations regarding personnel related
        matters.

5) STAFF SUPERVISION: The Director of Operations will:
      a) Supervise all support staff including: Accountant, Building Manager and Custodian, and all
         other positions related to the administration and operations of the congregation
      b) Review and implement policies and procedures to ensure clear, efficient, and effective office
         operation.
      c) Assess the overall effectiveness of the congregation’s ministry and make recommendations
         to the Council and staff regarding improvements.


6) COMMUNICATIONS & INFORMATION SERVICES: The Director of Operations will:
     a) Oversee communications with the members and friends of the congregation
     b) Work to improve internal communication vehicles
     c) Serve as the primary contact with outside organizations
     d) Review computer system needs making recommendations for improvements
     e) Oversee accurate member record keeping
     f) Assist in the preparation of the annual reports of the congregation.


7) OTHER DUTIES: Perform other reasonable tasks as requested by the Senior Pastor.


8) SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The Director of Operations will have the following knowledge
   and skills:
      a) Extensive experience in organizational management, with solid administrative and
          supervisory skills.
      b) Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with strong analytical and negotiating
          skills.
      c) Self-motivated with demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem solving, and process
          thinking.
      d) Extensive skills in matters of empowerment and team building.
      e) Good judgment in business and personal matters and able to respect confidential
          information.
      f) Some financial experience, including computer based accounting and record keeping
          systems.


9) EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
     a) Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Major in business administration or a related field is
        desirable.
     b) Five or more years of administrative and supervisory experience is required. Supervisory
        experience should consist of supervising numerous clerical and professional staff persons.
        Ideally, management experience should include increasing responsibilities. Management
        experience in a secular setting is necessary, with additional church related management a
        plus. Broad experience in Christian ministry and Christian leadership is essential.
