                                General Information, Rules and Regulations

Directions: From the Battleford bridge, travel NW on Hwy #16 towards Lloydminster. 4-5 km from the bridge
is Sunshine Road (green sign on your right) (you will have passed a big tourist info sign and rest area on your
left). Turn left onto Sunshine Road. Follow Sunshine Road straight west for 5.7km. Do NOT turn off until you
see the sign that says Hidden Meadows Ranch (on your left). The last ½ mile is a sand road. Turn left (south) at
the sign and travel in about ¾ mile. Welcome to the ranch!!!!! I look forward to hosting this show and sincerely
hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Heritage Circuit points: all classes are eligible for Heritage Circuit points except Halter, Walk/Trot, Novice
Reining, Jack Benny, Active for Life, Team Speed Challenge, Freestyle Reining Team, Command Class, Pairs
class, Jr English Medal Class, Jr Western Medal Class and Leadline. Riders wishing to compete for Provincial
points through the Heritage Circuit shows may nominate their horse(s) and purchase SHF memberships at the
show office.
SHF Membership: Individual SHF membership is recommended but not mandatory for participation in this
horse show. Information regarding SHF individual membership, the insurance program and other benefits will
be available at the show office.
Office Hours: The show office will be open at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 27, 2011. During the competition, it
will open one hour before the first class and remain open until one hour after the last class each day.
Warm Up Areas: Both show rings will be available for schooling on Friday night. Warm up areas will be
posted and available during the show days. Please do not go through closed gates.
Concession: will be available Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. Full Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be
served. Proceeds go to the SwiftMount 4-H Club
Saturday night Pig Roast: There will be a pig roast on Saturday night. Please purchase tickets on your entry
form at $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children 12 and under. This will help us to determine numbers as there
are only a limited number of tickets available (The pig is only so big!!!!!)
Hotel Accommodations: The Gold Eagle Lodge is the official Host Hotel of the 2011 BQHC Horse Show.
There is a block of rooms set aside at a corporate rate. Please book by April 27th. Ask for the BQHC rooms.
Camping: is available at no charge. There are no hookups. Please clean up after yourself.
Footing: is grass with a sand base.
Wash Racks: are not available. However, there will be lots of water and you are welcome to bath using pails.

Tentative schedule is attached. Please note that 2 rings will run concurrently. It is up to you, the competitor, to
stay informed and be ready for your class. In case of a conflict, the large grass ring takes precedence and the
small sand ring will be held.
Patterns: will be posted 1 hour before each class.
Entries received or postmarked on or before Friday, May 20, 2011, will receive a $10.00 discount. Mail

Cheques: to be made out to Battlefords Quarter Horse Club or BQHC
Number Deposit: A separate cheque for $10.00 will be required before your number is released. This cheque
will be returned to you when you return your number. Number to be worn on the horse‟s bridle.
Stall/Pen Clean Up Deposit: A separate cheque for $10.00 will be required as a stall/pen clean up deposit. If
you clean your stall or pen before you leave the grounds, your cheque will be returned to you. Otherwise, the
cheque will be cashed to pay someone else to clean up.
Cancellation of Entries: At the discretion of the show committee, entry fees, minus stabling and a $30.00
office charge, will be refunded with a veterinarian‟s certificate or proof of illness of rider.
Management: Reserves the right to cancel or combine any classes that do not fill to their satisfaction. All
entries must be made in writing and signed by the owner or agent. The parent or legal guardian must sign
entries of junior riders and the junior‟s birth date must be given. Entry fees must accompany entry form. One
number will be assigned to each horse/rider combination. Correct numbers must be worn and be clearly visible
at all times when in schooling and exercise areas as well as in the competition ring. A service fee of $25.00 will
be charged on all NSF cheques.
Stabling: will be available from noon on Friday, May 27. Stalls and pens will be assigned. Please do not move
from your assigned stall. Please fill out the owner information card and leave attached to your stall. A $10.00
clean up deposit is required for all stalls and pens. On-site stabling consists of open pens at $20 for the weekend
OR Sunshine Stables (3 miles away) has indoor box and tie stalls.
Rules: as per SHF Heritage Circuit 2011 Handbook or at the discretion of the show committee. Contact the
SHF office if you wish to purchase a copy of the 2011 Heritage Circuit Handbook.
Parking: Please park in designated areas only.
Garbage and Recycling: There will be bins throughout the show grounds. Please use them.
Dogs: Must be on a leash at all times. Absolutely no dogs in the warm up areas or show arenas at any time.
Protests: We welcome suggestions and positive comments at any time. Should any question or dispute arise, it
shall be referred to the show committee Chairperson. The Show Committee will meet and their decision will be
final.
Helmets: Protective headgear with a chinstrap and meeting the ASTM standards and displaying the SEI seal is
mandatory for all Junior riders (age as of January 1, 2011) at ALL TIMES WHEN MOUNTED on the show
grounds. Helmets are also required for all persons in English and over fences classes. Adults are encouraged but
not required to wear helmets in western classes.
Dress: Competitors should be neatly and suitably dressed either Western or English. Western attire to include
an approved helmet or suitable western hat, long sleeved shirt with collar and tie, scarf or pin, western pants and
belt, western boots. Chaps and spurs are optional. English dress to include approved helmet with chinstrap, shirt
with collar, pin, dark jacket, breeches or jodhpurs, tall English boots or half chaps with Jodhpur boots. Spurs are
optional.
Braiding: is optional
Tack and Equipment: as per the 2011 Heritage Circuit Handbook. Tiedowns, and mechanical hackamores
allowed in gymkhana classes only. Martingales allowed in hunters and gymkhana. Boots or bandages allowed
in reining and gymkhana only. Whips not to exceed 30” allowed in hunters and gymkhana only.
Age of Rider: is determined as of January 1st, 2011

Walk/Trot Entries: must be Junior riders. No cross entry into any other classes. Horses used in Walk/Trot may
be ridden in other divisions with a different rider.
Waiver: must be signed and submitted with the entry form.
Stallions: May NOT be shown or handled by a Junior.
Junior Horse: is 5 years of age or under (as of January 1st, 2011) and may be ridden in a ring snaffle with 2
hands in all classes entered.
Riding: Please be considerate of spectators and other riders and WALK your horse unless you are in the show
arena or a designated warm up area.

If a minimum of 5 entries in a class is not achieved, the management has the right to reduce designated prize
money by 50%.

Championship and Reserve prizes will be awarded to the high point horse/rider in each of the following
divisions. Points are cumulative over the two days. Prizes will be awarded on Sunday after the last class in each
division.

                                               Super Horse Award
                                          Sponsored by Austin’s Saddlery

The BQHC 2011 Austin‟s Saddlery Super Horse will receive an embroidered cooler and a custom headstall
from Austin‟s Saddlery. The Runner-Up will receive an embroidered cooler. Points are to be accumulated over
the 2 days. To be eligible, a horse/rider combination must compete in a minimum of 3 divisions and earn points
in at least 2 of those divisions. Specialty classes and Halter not to count.
                                           Youth Scholarships
                Sponsored by Prairie Wind Construction and Electrical, Battleford Furniture,
                                    Town of Battleford, HDH Architects

An Educational Scholarship, valued at $300.00, will be awarded in each of the Walk/Trot, Junior A, Junior B
and Junior C age divisions. All Junior riders who enter and compete in the show are eligible for this award. The
name of the Scholarship recipients will be drawn from the names entered in each of the 4 divisions. With your
Scholarship, you will receive a list of all current Saskatchewan and Alberta coaches certified through Equine
Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada. Once you choose a coach and commit to a riding program, the
BQHC will send a cheque to that coach. You can use this scholarship for lessons, camps or clinics.

                                                      Specialty Classes

Leadline No entry fee. 6 years old and under to be led by an adult. Western or English.

Walk/Trot Division : $6.00 per class. Junior Riders (17 years and under). No cross entry of horse/rider
combination into any other classes – horse may be shown in other divisions with a different rider. Merchandise
prizes.

Novice Reining: $6.00 per class. 2 hands allowed, snaffle or western bit, no changes – no cross entry into any
other reining class on the same day but may enter the Freestyle Team – merchandise prizes

Freestyle Reining Team : $6.00 per horse Make up your own pattern to include required components and
creativity. (2 horses per team to complete one pattern with at least 2 horse/rider changes –– each team to
determine which horse does which maneuvers – 2 hands allowed and may do simple changes. Music and
costumes are optional but encouraged. Music to be on a CD for announcer to play. Merchandise prizes.

Team Speed Challenge – $6.00 per horse – A timed event in which 2 horses complete a modified pattern
including barrels, poles and a keyhole – horses to switch off at least once during the pattern (so each horse does
2 parts of the pattern – you determine which). Music and costumes are optional but encouraged. Pattern to be
posted. Merchandise prizes

Walk/Trot Medal Class: $12.00 fee includes both sections. Western or English. Riders to complete a pattern,
work on the rail and perform individual tests at the judge‟s discretion.

Junior English Medal Classes - $12.00 fee includes both sections. First 3 placings to be awarded Gold, Silver
and Bronze Medals. To be judged as a Hunter Seat Equitation over fences class (crossrails only). Top riders will then
be called back to perform on the rail and to execute individual tests at the judge‟s discretion.

Junior Western Medal Classes - $12.00 fee includes both sections. First 3 placings to be awarded Gold, Silver and
Bronze Medals. To be judged on the rider‟s ability to ride a horsemanship pattern and then to show his/her horse at halter
(sweat marks won‟t count!!!!). Individual tests may be requested at the judge‟s discretion.

Command Class: $6.00 entry fee. Western or English.

Pairs Class: $6.00 entry fee per horse. Western or English.

Open Chore Team Competition: $12.00 entry fee per team. A driving competition to demonstrate horse and driver skills
in negotiating a variety of obstacles – over, around, through – and performing tasks that may be encountered when doing
chores on a ranch. Show harness not required. Pattern to be posted. Stoneboat and wagon will be supplied.
