CARNIVAL DAY AUGUST 13
On Friday, August 13, 2010, it was Carnival Day at the Rockland Boces
Hilltop School. This event was created by the SAAGNY Foundation in
cooperation with the Hilltop School Summer Program. The promise of
the SAAGNY Foundation signature “Creating Smiles” is just what the
SAAGNY Foundation delivers, and Carnival Day was no exception.

“Carnival Day” meant games, gifts, crafts, and cupcakes, to sixty-five dis-
advantaged, emotionally challenged kids ages 6-15 years old. “Planning
the event was half the fun, but nothing compared to the fun day for all,”
said Ellen Bernstein, Chair of the SAAGNY Foundation, the charitable arm
of Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York (SAAGNY).

The staff at the Rockland Boces Hilltop School was so helpful, which
made everything go so smoothly. Special thanks to the staff as well as to
the volunteers and, of course, to the many contributors for the toys and
games donated for the event. Volunteers were Ellen & Al Bernstein, Brian
Buckley, Eric Rackoff, Idelle Schwinder, Mike Schenker, Paula Shulman
and Event Coordinator Jonathan Riegel.

I think one of the children summed it up the best “like Christmas in Au-
gust,” said Mike Schenker (photographer for the event). Watching children
belly laugh or doing something nice for each other is such a rewarding
experience.”
