A Newsletter for Employees of University Health System

               Kindness is contagious!
It started out as an ordinary day for David Viera,
a sergeant with the U.S. Army but, in a matter of
seconds, it became an extraordinary one, thanks to
the staff in Newborn Nursery at University Hospital.
While serving in Iraq, SGT. Viera was pleasantly
surprised to see a large package with his name on it
arrive in the mail from San Antonio.
It was from the Newborn Nursery at University
Hospital, where his mom works. "I thank all my
coworkers for supporting my son while he is away.
Their kind thoughts and constant prayers keep us
The package included board games, snacks,
toiletries, magazines, and large plastic mugs inscribed
with "God Bless Texas" and various football logos.
"Little things like that really help brighten
everyone's day out here," he said. "When I first
walked into our barracks carrying that huge package,
it felt like Christmas morning. I couldn't open the
package fast enough."
During a recent visit to San Antonio, SGT. Viera
came in person to thank nursery staff with a plaque
that said "Thanks" from all the soldiers in his infantry
