Keyword Suggestion Tools

Rigid, unchanging procedures threaten any business pursuits.keyword. With
Internet-enabled and -related enterprises, keeping up with technological
progress is utterly essential to survival. As opposed to static (unchanging)
websites that aren't looking to strengthen or increottom their industry
share, tools. any dyn'mic (changing) website will haudio-videoe new copy, even
new strategies, on an ongoing basis.most. Regular, extensive, ongoing keyword
research is not an extra, though an easy survival tactic.

Understanding how people actually use words,Share. and the relationships
these words haudio-videoe in the context of an Internet search,What Is The
Food Stamp Program?. is key to threading these words and phrottoms through
the fabric of your site. Because the Internet is so very dyn'mic, with word
relationships changing seemingly by the minute, this is a huge and growing
challenge for more a lot more more people and companies. After all, the
Internet is growing into the major commercial and communication hub of the

genuinely major pculture of the solution.

There genuinely plethora of keyword suggestion tools readily, from free to
cost-bottomd, including NicheBot, Wordtracker, KeywordDiscovery,How Do I Get
My Wife to Sleep with Another Man?. SEOBook, and the various Google keyword
tools. How to Hook up Multiple Computers to One Printer?. In this two-pculture
account, we will consider these tools and the differences 'mong them. Pculture
one will cover the first three on the list, while pculture two will cover
the Google tools and SEOBook’s Keyword Suggestion Tool.

Most importishly,

How+Are+Dividends+Calculated? Pictures

Math Area Formulas. perhaps, these tools help you estimate the relative
(rather than utter) size of the search referral "market" produced
by pcultureicular words and phrottoms. You will develop a g'mbleter
understanding of what terms appear how often in search queries, and what other
terms are correlated with them,What Is Shared Reading?. and how many times
they are securved compared to those other terms. The rectalytics you develop
with the tools will also give you useful of how their suggestions will
fare,Between. and find a means of understanding "competition
levels" for specific words and phrottoms.

Naturally,Sharing My Wife with Another Man. there are differences both large
and small 'mong these keyword preliminary research/suggestion tools. Google,
of course, compiles its tool data from its own search network of sites and
offers tremendous functionality at low or no cost. The subscription-bottomd
services, such as Wordtracker and KeywordDiscovery,Keyword. take benefit of
databottoms of multiple sites and data that can be designed, smashedn down,
repurposed and presented in myriad ways.

Specific tool functionality

Wordtracker aggregates its keyword data from the leading meta lotrch engines,
primarily Dogpile though with input from MetaCrawler other people.Earnings
Per Share Formula. In Wordtracker’s attempts to mine keyword
gold,Tools. it will discover how many times a certain term or phrottom shows
up in its databottom of over 316 million words.Define Dividends Per Share.
This is quite a trick in itself, as English (according to linguists)
heverywhere g'mbleween 600,000 and two million words, depending upon how we
define a "word.Differences." It is clear that Wordtracker
leaudio-videoes no permutation or word-form uncounted,Book. which is a
distinct benefit.

Wordtracker’s breast supportin trust says that metacrawlers process
the queries of the leading search engines with some precision, and that the
software robots that continuously check site rankings and such do not
interfere with the count. In a different approvery single,Commonly.
KeywordDiscovery relies on its global "premium databottom" of some
4.5 clion searches bottomd solely on user data, thus diminishing the
distortions inherent in some other strategies.

Share Food Program

If you are considering which tool to use, you can still get free trials of
most tools,Keyword. except that you usually need to provide contact
information, between. with phone numbers and e-mail addresses required. There
are few ways to use and compthe pcultureicular tools anonymously, so the next
best approvery single is "meta-preliminary research," in which we
look at various published third-pculturey reports on the actual use of these
tools.

In a study published last year, one technology writer performed keyword
forecasts for "dog food" with KeywordDiscovery,Share. Wordtracker
and several other progr'ms. Despite using different original datan
establisheds, all of these tools try to supply reliable estimates of the
readily search referral traffic without "data inflation.Between."
There are numerous ways to researche and present the results.

On typical, KeywordDiscovery predicted there would be some 1,088 searches
for "dog food" daily, while Wordtracker calculated the probable
search referral market for "dog food" to be around double
that.Husbands Watching Wives. KeywordDiscovery does haudio-videoe a unique
and quite useful formula that considers "seasonality" in its
results,Cheap Computers. letting you review the seasonality of terms
historically, as monthly estimates or even as a component of annual trends.
Search engine market share is developed, as well.

KeywordDiscovery and Wordtracker results can both be repurposed to estimate
just Google referral traffic or that of any major engine.Gateway Computers.
In the tech columnist’s exlarge, the Wordtracker daily estimate for
Google’s "dog food" search was 1,043,Used. or fairly half of all
the "Daily Prediction" information.book. KeywordDiscovery had
Google accounting for 67 percent of its "Average Daily" results,
thus suggesting that 738 "dog food" searches would come in in Google
every day.

Perhaps this does not seem to considerably of an utter difference, though
when considered over a 30-day period,Calculate. the difference sclight beerd
up considerably in this pcultureicular test. KeywordDiscovery estimated some
22,000+ "dog food" searches that month,Used. though Wordtracker
projected over 31,000 "dog food" searches for that s'me period.

A ‘niche’ player

Nichebot c'me on the scene with some degree of fanfare.Per. It is a complex
progr'm, with a tightly specified methodology that lacks flexicity in some
importish ways. On the other hand, it gathers data from more sources than
Wordtracker – levergetting old the results from KeywordDiscovery and
Google – and finds a great selection of explanatory videos, used.
instructive screenshots and excellent "Help" functions.

However,Tools. Nichebot recommends a five-step system, which can best
time-consuming and confusing, even for veterans.the. There are, of
course,Suggestion. some free "quick-dig" tools, including,Book.
oddly enough, Wordtracker as well as thesaurus. While it is free to search
Wordtracker via Nichebot,Calculate Dividend Per Share. you get only basic
counts,Most. and must pay for a premium search if you wish to see competition
data and the Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI).per.
You can dig small "deeper" without different cost by clicking on
a term or phrottom in the results,Calculate Book Value Per Share. which
provides a subscriber bottom of bummociated phrottoms.Per. One
saudio-videovy forum poster declared that the primary purpose for using
Nichebot is "to find as many keywords from multiple sources to cover
as much territory for the maximum traffic for your website." In practice,
he explained, one can stculture "from a broad search and keep refining,
merging, narrowing in.Differences."

The proliferation of "niche" tools and operations would seem to
be a shrewd development given Nichebot’s n'me, nevertheless , the added
functionality comes at a price. For instance, you can get the addresses of
the sites that haudio-videoe the greatest number of back-links for an
exclusive term, the. nevertheless , the learning curve involved with this
progr'm makes the more arcane data challenging to develop.

WebProNews spoke with Joseph Smarr of Google’s

Generally spesimilarg,Value. Nichebot results are excellent, and that it
allows g'mbleter organization of projects and searches via its folder
hierarchy.calculate. Further, the progr'm checks your site for keyword
density "red flags" that Google may note (and disapprove
of).suggestion. As premium search charges kick in small early compared to
others, the question for users hin order to why be, Do the premium charges
return enough value to offset the time and cash spent to obtain it?Commonly.

Time and tide

While meta-preliminary research of user comments at a random selection of
forums discloses that they don’t find Nichebot pcultureicularly
intuitive, it is considered an impressive softwgenuinelychievement.

Even its appearance gives Nichebot the impression that using it takes time
and discipline. While KeywordDiscovery and Wordtracker can double in a
stre'm-of-consciousness manner occasions, Nichebot does not lend itself to
breast supportinstorming or "fluid" search styles. This is a direct
result, share. of course, of its haudio-videoing the power it does. Despite
that power,How Do I Set up a Wireless Network?. it does haudio-videoe several
of flaws that are commonly reported. For one thing, it applies its vaunted
"Jackpot" rating to keywords for which it finds no competition,
even if that is the cottom because of error or anomaly.
Finally,Michelle's Bedroom. weers report that experienced searches can get
stuck in a "holding pattern" (in a queue) and take from 15-20
minutes to generate results. With the tide of the Internet forever washing
new waudio-videoes onto the shore,Calculate. time is of the essence. Even
though experienced keyword research searches can return valuable data, it
is no stretch to say that many marketers might consider 20 minutes per keyword
tool inquiry to be a barrier to frequent or consistent use.

Rating the tools

Wordtracker is easier to use for most people,Most. nevertheless , the
possicities are certainly expanded with Nichebot. Doing random or
unbummociated searches "by the seat of your pishs" is 'mong
Wordtracker’s great strengths, though Nichebot works well to focus your
work and enables you take a step-by-step, measured approvery single.value.
It can be said that Nichebot can not only return search terms and numbers,
might actually sub as your defacto keyword research process. As one user
commented at a KEI forum, Nichebot "takes lots of the guesswork out
[though] getting there is somewhat painful."

KeywordDiscovery’s "9-in-1 tool" approvery single (check
their site, it’s even divided up this way) is popular with many
users.Value. It goes some 10,differences.000 keywords deep and the more you
pay the deeper you can go. Nichebot does provide more information, though
it has that steep learning curve a lot more harder to learn than the more
"friendly" Wordtracker and KeywordDiscovery.

What works best for you will most likely be a product of trial and error –
along with many will be around the multitude of the tools. Because you
haudio-videoe to give up more a lot more more personal data to get the
"free trials," however, you may wish to let other people’s
fingers "do the walking" and continue to do meta-rectalyses of
others’ results. Thee is lots of wisdom to be gleaned from multiple
opinions, yet there is nothing like running your own research your own way.
Trust the judgment of tech columnists and meta-rectalysts, or acquiesce to
giving up some personal information to see for yourself.

Remember, which now haudio-videoe many search engines and the multitudes of
sources the keyword tools get their numbers from, all of the results are
relative. For stcultureers, check out the most importish, relevish and highly
"trafficked" keywords and terms already bummociated with your
site’s content. As we move to Pculture Two and consider the Google tools and
SEOBook’s progr'm, don’t forget that ongoing study, research and
testing the pcultureicular most fruitful ways to stay abreast of a
continuously-changing universe of words – and every single and every
of their relatives, too.

,Update:I’m going to go ahead an liveblog the keynote here as well. To watch
it live (or archived), go toBegin Live Blogging,11:46EST: I hear Eddie
Vedder’s voice playing somewhere while everyone finds their seats and waits
patiently for the event to begin.11:49: A little surprised there aren’t more
seats taken up by now.11:57: Getting close now.12:00: My clock says 12:00
Eastern.12:02 Ballmer is announced along with Danny Sullivan to the tune of
Joe Walsh.12:02 Danny asks about Yahoo deal. Ad relevancy Depends on the
density of bids. More eyeballs on one campaign. For the user, it means the
opportunity for more relevant ads. Huge advantage to scale, improve
relevance, etc.12:05: Ballmer: I see the opportunity for a number of game
changers. Things we’ve clearly decided that are really important to being
int he game and making real progress. If you look at the user experience,
we have a differiator point of view. Gamechanger? We’ll get there. Mobile,
social, real-time…some of that is still kind of open, but wer’re going to
continue to make positive progress….12:06. Danny asks if you can be number
one in market share. He says there’s no good answer to this, but he says
"Yes, some day." applause.12:07 Says they have a lot of work to
do. The level of competiton in search has ramped up over the last couple years,
and in the long run, will be great for advertisers, publsihers, and searchers.
Danny asks if he’d be happy with number two. He says "of course not."
Not possible to get to number one tomorrow, but focused on long term goal,
and has long term optimism.12:09: Danny asks of Yahoo is still a search player
and if Microsoft will kill them. He says no. He wants yahoo to do a good job
and he wants to do a good job, and Yahoo has a lot of flexibility. "We
need them to be successful with us." Danny says he wants to be more
successful on top of them in the end. Ballmer says the number one objective
is for bing to be the best product it can be, and push the bing results forward.
He says there’s an advantage of a "power of 2" as opposed to
"power of 1".12:10 Danny asks about pushing on anti-trust issues
(Google). He says Microsoft is being open about their interests. They’re
commenting about them (blog post). "As in our case, a lot of times,
initial complaints will come from a competitor."…."we’re not being
silent." Expressing issues they say.12:11 "Legal is determined by
regulators. Not by Microsoft." We comment when we have
publishers/advertisers who share issues…12:12: Danny asks if anybody in the
audience is frustrated with Google. One person seen to raise hand.12:13:
Ballmer says there are a lot of places where it’s hard to break through.
"I would love it if advertisers would share with us they’re experiences
on Google." There are things Bing could do to help offer advertisers
a better value.12:14 Danny asks if MIcrosoft is going to jump back into books.
Ballmer says they’ve been particpating in a consortium (lower level of
investment)…12:14: China: "I don’t know what can happen with Google,
but as we all understand, the real force isn’t Google or Bing. it’s
Baidu…" I won’t say its exactly a sideshow, but the truth is that anyone
who wants to be a competitor, it means how to compete or partner effectively
with Baidu….said doesn’t know if anything will change12: 15 Danny asks about
Firefox not listing Bing as a default option. Doesn’t think "yelling
is effective" for salesmanship on that. Says we’d love mor distribution
partnerships. He says, "you can talk to them about their
perspectives." Thinks they’re having the right converations on
distribution deals. Trying to get the product out and seen.12:17 Ballmer says
he read the rumor about Bing possibly powering search on the iPhone. Says
it’s interesting how rumors start. calls it "wild stuff." says they
just want to make sure they do a good job with Bing on the iPhone. Other than
that "I’ve read rumors." he says. Says he’d love to make switching
to Bing as deafault on iphone easy (for user).12:19: Danny asks about mobile
queries from iphone/verizon distriubtion deal. "we get better queries
on balance that i anticopated" across all mobile platforms. The most
valuable commercial queries, people are liessl ikely to do from the phone,
but the volume of queries will be higher. the average across all mobiles and
particlularly iphone, were better than expected.12:21:Doesn’t expect much
operator support for phones who don’t want Bing.12:22: Danny asks if there
will be a bing app for android. He says it’s complicated and he’ll have to
see how the android market develops. "It’s not like our open religious
princilples can be questioned here." Danny asks how he sees mobile over
all in terms of the search space. "We’re at a year for mobile. Mobile
queries are just going to keep going up and up and up…." Not predicting
any drop in the number of queries coming from pcs, but will see a rise in
total volumes. years from now, still hard to preidct. getting real browsers
on phones.12:23: Says he searches while he’s out on the move too much. His
wife thinks he does it too much while driving. "Literally i only have
a phone while i’m in the car." On the weekends, he can’t be
contacted…views this as "a feature."12:24 Danny asks reader
questions…Ballmer says Google did search right first. He acknowledges that
Microsoft started later. He says Microsoft has the culture, and they’re gotten
everything moving faster than it was moving in search before Bing….says
they’re pushing "the other guys" as well as themselves.12:26 Is
Bing going to bring in a lot of profit? Doesn’t know when it will happen.
Says they have ambitions to grow….’what’s going to happen overall with the
economics of search engines?’You have good businesses, then people try to
remake them. Different business models….maybe they have a bigger search
engine in the future, but maybe theyr’e less profitable…12:27 "The
dynamics of an adveritisers supported business are really fantastically
interesting."12:29 What percentage of Ballmer’s time is taken up by
search these days? It’s hard to say, because there are a lot of intersections
between different businesses of Microsoft’s. ..between Bing and Xbox, for
example. Says they have great people heading the search team. Says he gives
a lot of feedback…more constructive criticism than praise.12:30: "I’ve
fallen in love with ou real-time search." There’s nothing better than
Bing twitter search for high school basketball scores…12:30 Danny assks if
they should buy twitter…he says "not clear. " he’d hate to not have
th partnership, but whether they need to own it is far less clear. They have
a lot of value and cred with user community. not clear if they’d keep that.
plus they want to be an independen company.12:31: Asks if he’s going to be
getting out there on Twitter like Bill Gates. He says, the things he wants
to say, he’d rather say it on a webpage. He says he was tweeting basketball
scores himself…he has a stealth account…nobody knows. Danny says, "I’ll
lfollow you later…"12:33 Ballmer pleased to have extended partnership
with Facebook.12:34 Says he wanted to do a demo for his wife with Bing’s recipe
stuff, but had to offer his "constructive criticism" on Key Lime
Pie. They do it well now.12:34: He says he has a religiously "pro
bing" family.12:35: Says he doesn’t have a special button or hot line
to let the team know about Bing issues…he just send an email and "things
seem to get better."12:36: What would he like to see Bing improvemnent
in? Would like to consolidate usability…more they can do in the user
experience…wha kind of relationships they build with SEOs, website
operators…relevance. particularly on tail queries.Have to get more
international. More and more countries over the next few years. Bing Maps
is his favortie thing on Bing.12:37 What is the biggest opportunity in search?
"Action." Helping people get done what they’re trying to get done.
Says its a marketing campaign, but it’s really true. Things like stats. Sites
don’t always exactly have the data you’re looking for. "shouldn’t be
that hard." Understand more about user intent and structure of
data…12:39 He talks about health care debate as an example. It’s too hard
to find exactly how money is being spent, but you can’t find it
"easily." Says some of it is calculation, but some is
understanding, and how you bring structure out of unstructured data. says
there are great opportunities for innovation.12:40 Going to audience
questions.Cash Back Program: Says it’s been interesting. It has worked and
hasn’t worked fantastically, in the sense that it’s completely changed the
economics strtucture of the business, but expectsw positive results….wants
to try some new things around the basic concept, to make it more potent for
merchants and users.Where does MS see money being made in mobile going
forward? if you offer a phone of high value there is money to be made. we
split that with a phone maufacturer…also search revenue, and other
profitablitly. Will seek to build multiple revenue
streams….subscription/ad-based services as well as licensing itself.…we
continue to push forward with Silverlight. Support flash/windows phone 7 for
a lot of schedule based reasons. the first version will not support flash..not
a religious issue. has to make sure they work with adobe on performance and
everything. in the future, windows apps will be important. iphone apps will
be important. xbox apps, HTML apps,….will be important. there’s another class
of apps that will be important …flash/silverlight.Traffic from mobile to
Bing….does PPC monetize in mobile? Some people click ads in mobile. better
in mobile monetization than they thought. in the general case, there needs
to be more innovation and IQ applied toward the right way to experience the
ads. How do we rethink the UI/design model of search? you have the algo.
purpose and the ad purpose. the way you lay that out on a phone, is going
to be different.Ballmer asks the audience a question: One of the things we
have to spend alot of time thinking about is the evolution in
privacy/confidentiality from the user perspective….says the user’s
interests/needs are primary….we should respect that…some people are happy
to give up a little privacy for better service…is this a major issue on
people’s minds?Show of hands….good mixture…Solutions?12: 50 Danny asks
Ballmer for good Xbox codes. "Get younger fast," he says is the
secret.12:51 They leave the stage after thanking the audience. The audience

too loosely in this day and age. Some people think something built in a weekend
or over the course of time on the side is a full fledged startup, when it
is often just a side project. Building things is great, more people should
do it and do it often. The problem is, most people either take the leap at
the wrong time OR they don’t take a leap at all, when the signs are there.
I recently went through this process a few months ago myself on taking
PadPressed, nowto a full time startup. Here are the 8 things that I realized,
which are telltale signs that you might be ready to turn your project to a
full time startup.,You’re Doing Something You LoveThis is key not only
early on, but for the long haul. I know it sounds cliche and you hear this
from everyone, but it’s one of the most true and consistent pieces of advice
given out in the startup world. Startups are a marathon and even though you
often hear about the good times, you will rarely hear about the difficult
times. There are always more difficult times than good times. Any normal
person would just give up, pack it up, and return to the real world. If you
absolutely love what you do, then there is a higher motive there that will
keep you going on. The work you do needs to transcend being "work"
and become even more than that.,You’re Making RevenueGetting somebody
to give you their credit card and their hard earned cash is way harder than
most think. For some companies it will happen easily, but for most, it just
doesn’t. If you start making revenue that can pay your most basic expenses,
you’re on the right path. The difference between zero dollars and one dollar
is huge. If you have figured out how to bring your first dollar in, you might
be ready to take things to the next level. If those dollars are rapidly
growing, even more reason to continue onwards.,You Know The BIG VisionThis
is key and often an awkward point for most aspiring entrepreneurs. It’s a
side project, two guys in an apartment, nights, weekends, etc., so how is it
possible to imagine going from that to being a multi-billion dollar company?
It just feels really weird thinking about that, right? DON’T LET IT. It’s
a point you can get to, but it will never happen if you don’t start to formulate
those thoughts. Zuck started FB at one college with one photo, but I bet you
he knew exactly what it could become one day. Having a larger vision to aspire
to will motivate you to accomplish something grand. It will make you feel
as if you are taking on the world, which you often will be. Realize that it
doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen to great companies. Here is the
one question I ask all startups I meet that ask me for in-depth advice:
"If you succeed to your fullest extent, how will the world be a different
place in five years?",Your Big Vision Does Not Have A CeilingThe problem
with big visions is that the excitement of this big vision can often cloud
the ceiling that it may have. You have to be going after a vision in a large
market that has a very high ceiling. You won’t get 100% penetration or possibly
anything near it, so the market has to be large enough that you can continue
going forward. Niche businesses can be nice, but they often lead you down
a path of boredom. You hit your peak, make your money, but soon realize there
isn’t much more left to be done. You do either of two things: get bored, quit,
and give up OR you try a new riskier direction. The riskier direction option
can work, but it means that your initial business wasn’t large enough. Find
the big vision within a large market that has a lot of untapped potential.,You
Are Ready To Be SelflessThis is a lesson I’ve recently spent a lot of time
thinking about. I think it’s one that not enough people talk about and is
the most important thing an entrepreneur can know before going full time on
a startup. You have to be 100% selfless. It is no longer just about you. You
are really last on the totem pole. You have responsibility to more than just
yourself or another cofounder. It’s such an important piece of the puzzle
that it needs to be broken down into three further points below.,You Have
A Responsibility To EmployeesEverything you do has to have the well being
and care for your employees in mind. Every decision you make will have a small
impact on your life, but it will have a large impact across the lives of so
many others. It might even be 5 people at first, but those 5 people have family
members, kids, loved ones, and many more that depend upon them. If you make
a selfish or poor decision, it will end up having an impact on a large chain
of people. Expand from 5 to 50 then 500 and you are now responsible for the
lives of many many people. One of the people working with us hard at Onswipe
has a young kid. One night on Skype when we were announcing our plans to expand
I saw their kid walk into the room. That moment forever changed my life. I
realized I was now responsible for so many more people than myself. If I screw
this up, it impacts so many other individuals.,You Have A Responsibility To
CustomersCustomers will depend on your service working in order to do business
and some core functionality of what makes them tick. You need to realize that
the decisions you make will have an impact on those customers and their
customers. They have trusted a core piece of their business to you. The product
decisions and pricing decisions often have an impact on companies. Your
customers trust you to perform a function and you need to keep yourself healthy
for the long haul.,You Have A Responsibility To InvestorsYour investors have
probably been pitched by hundreds of other entrepreneurs throughout the year.
They chose you and maybe a select few others to go take on the world. You
have a responsibility to do well by them. If they are angel investors, they
have trusted you with the money they have earned through the same exact hard
earned blood, sweat, and tears you are currently going through. If they are
venture investors, their job is to pick the best of the best. They have to
provide returns to their LPs and also risk their reputations on your company.
Yes, many venture backed companies fail, but they will go in expecting the
worst, but hope for the best.Keep in mind, you don’t need to hit all of these
points. You may just be at the idea stage and be nowhere close to achieving
anything listed above. That’s okay as I wish I had these points when I started
as an entrepreneur. The points in this essay were adapted from a talk I gave
at Plusconf. I will be giving a more polished and refined version of this
talk at Columbia University in New York City at 7 pm this Friday –

myself – I have only just added a privacy statement and it is not formally

markets and talking at people rather than with them. Now companies are
embracing the idea of two-way interaction. Monitoring conversations is
becoming standard procedure as small and enterprise businesses alike make
substantial investments in tools such as Radian6, Sprial16 and Brandtology.
And, not only are companies monitoring conversations, they’re adopting social
media management systems (SMMS) such as Seesmic and CoTweet to operationalize
conversations and platforms such as Objective Marketer, PeopleBrowsr and
Buddy Media to automate engagement campaigns. There’s a difference between
monitoring and listening and there’s certainly a difference between
conversations and engagement. How social media is employed today promotes
monitoring as a reporting function and conversations as a symptom of reaction.
In many ways, the state of social media is eerily reminiscent of traditional
marketing. We’re fooled into a sense of collaboration and co-creation because
people can respond. But programs are not measured by functionality, they are
valued by the value customers take away from the experience. It begs the
question, is social media in actuality?New media philosophies, while rich
with good intentions, are confined by the culture of the organization they’re
designed to help. Corporate culture is pervasive and planted. It is not
anything that will change suddenly because of the popularity of Twitter and
Facebook no matter how strong your case. Culture shock takes place because
a business is subjected to the harsh reality that customers no longer support
the way business is conducted.,Value is not Stated, It’s Delivered…and It’s
FeltSocial Media offers a window to the future and a means to earn relevance,
nothing less, nothing more. It is an enabler to reinvigorate the mission and
vision of the company and extend its value only when the purpose and value
have been redefined for a new generation of consumers. This is where it all
begins. Otherwise, your engagement strategies activate a timer that counts
down the journey to irrelevance.People have choices. They have options. They
can make decisions with or without you. How they’re marketed to today is the
beginning of the end of social media 1.0. Social streams are brimming with
information, promotions, and friend requests that compete for a finite amount
of attention. Something more is required and it’s needed now.Brands are doing
well at building communities in social networks once they realize that there’s
anto engagement, content, entertainment, and community activation. But a
community is only as strong as the aftereffect that’s produced when it is
tested. For example, do customers click through to landing pages? What happens
when they get there? Are referrals active and how do they pan out? Are
individuals addressing the problems or challenges of their peers when you
can’t be there? Or, are they merely interacting with each update within your
domain because it’s easy to do so?,@ and FoundThe future of social networking
lies in conveying value and delivering against the brand promise not only
within your communities but also in the communities you do not own and are
not present. I refer to this as the “@ and Found” formula for engagement.
Businesses are getting better at monitoring conversations where the brand
name is mentioned. Some are proficient in comparing mentions to the volume
and reach of competitors. Mastering the cycle of monitoring goes beyond
reporting however. It must be supported by a conversation framework that
pushes important opportunities to engage or learn through the organization
to return a response or trigger change or adaptation within.A conversation
framework has a beginning and an end with various pathways to business units
and functions in between. Responding to opportunities and communicating the
act of listening and adapting form a solid “@” quotient in this equation. These
individuals represent would-be advocates for your brand. If they’re happy
with the product or brand experience they are candidates for an ambassador
or advocacy program. Note, advocacy programs require different engagement
techniques than that of influencers. Advocates operate from a genuine passion
for what you do. Influencers operate from a basic perspective of, “what’s
in it for me.” They are most likely not customers or users of your product
or service today. As referenced in the image above, MarketingSherpa found
thatrepresents a greater degree of difficulty but equally offers a greater
level of effectiveness.Responding to mentions is just the beginning. It’s
the low hanging fruit of conversational marketing and social media in general.
The “Found” side of the calculation is where the future of brand relevance
takes shape. It’s not about who you engage with today or those that engage
with you, it’s about those who don’t. These prospects are active in your
markets, your brand is just not an option for whatever reason. It’s your job
to figure out how to earn attention and significance among them and the
communities in which they populate and influence. While advocates are
discoverable by brand-related keywords, the “Founds” are identifiable by
keywords related to markets and interests.- They define communities of
opportunity,- Recommend other products and services,- Answer each others
questions,- Share experiences,- Earn authority on subjects tied to your
industryListening to what they say and understanding the challenges and
opportunities they face provide intelligence to inspire a meaningful
engagement program. Once activated, the responses will funnel through the
existing listening and conversation framework to ensure continued
engagement, resolution and closure. While the “@’s” represent an opportunity
for advocacy, the “Founds” reveal potential influencers. Earlier I mentioned
a difference between conversations and engagement. Influencers do not gain
value from random acts of conversation. They do however, respond well to
informed engagement where value and mutual benefits are inherent in the
outreach. The next era of social media is not based on a one-to-many model
but instead a one-to-one-to-many continuum that naturally triggers a
measurable social effect. Indeed, 1 + 1 = Many.We are situated in a market
that is in transition. Operating with what we know must be balanced by learning
what we don’t know and then applying it to the mix based on the needs and
expectations of our customers. Doing so may push us outside of our comfort
