The Tragic Mixture

Class of the Week The Tragic Mixture Lesson 9 from the series, "Revival" Reading in Malachi 4:5-6, "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to the fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." When Elijah came on the scene, the concept of separation from the world and holiness to God was lost from the mind of Israel. His message was directed exclusively to this tragedy. When He came, Israel needed reviving. The prophet of God saw what the problem was. It was this awful mixture. His message was aimed at bringing them back to the place of separation and holiness. Jezebel, the queen, had succeeded in bringing into Israel's worship the idolatrous worship of Baal. The nation was mixed both physically and spiritually. It was a mixture that God would not tolerate. This was the situation Elijah was called to correct. It is a situation that most of you are called to correct. This is the problem today. Elijah's message and mission was to restore God's people to a national and religious purity. He was immediately branded as narrow. His mortal enemy was the wicked queen Jezebel who had forced the religion of Baal upon the people. It wasn't that Israel had forsaken the true religion, she had added Baal worship to the true. It would have been better had they divorced themselves from God completely, rather than to have mixed the true and the false. Most Protestant scholars interpret the time of Thyatira as being a period of about 1,000 years during the time when the church had power over the nations. Reading in Revelation 2:20, "Notwithstanding (talking to this church of Thyatira) I have a few things against thee, because thou suffereth this woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, to eat things sacrificed unto idols." We know the woman, Jezebel, was thrown out, and dogs ate her. Revelation is not referring here to a woman, but to a system of religion. This religious system identified with Jezebel has continued throughout the centuries, and surfaced again in Thyatira. This system is destined to become the harlot church of the Tribulation. Jezebel is a worldly system; we call it Ecumenical today, which encourages a mixture of the true and the false, by playing down the value of the true doctrines of God. It is a system that it is totally void of conviction. God is added to whatever else you are, or believe. This is Jezebel. It's everywhere in the modern church. Hollywood stars, political big wigs, rock stars adding Jesus to the terrible demonic beat they are bringing to our world, all of these adding Jesus to their lifestyle. The Ecumenists, or the Jezebels, are saying that this is good. The false prophet as head of this evil mixture, will demand that all must worship the Beast and receive his mark. This pressure will come out of accepted Christianity. The apostasy of the end will not be of Communist origin, it will come out of the so-called church. The True church must wholly reject any symbol of mixture. If we tolerate the least untruth in our believing, we will become a part of the harlot system. Everything that religiously commits adultery with this

Jezebel system shall be cast into Tribulation. Revelation 2:21-22, "And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds." There you have it. If we do not reject this mixture, then we endorse this Jezebel system. God said He would cast the whole system into tribulation. Such shall not be a part of that raptured church. Israel was God's people. They were not to mix with other nations. Other nations could become a part of Israel if they came on God's terms. Israel was God's testimony in the earth, and that testimony could not be mixed with Baal, Dagon, or Molech. Other nations could become proselytes to Israel, but never was the mixture allowed. Elijah's message struck a sour note with the unity crowd. Nothing has changed. It strikes a sour note with the ecumenical group today. When the message of the Bible is clear, the true messenger is branded unlovely, narrow, or worse. The man who stands to proclaim the truth, that God will not allow any mixture to what He has given us to believe, that man is branded. When the man of God preaches that only Jesus saves, and there is no room for Buddha, Islam, or Mary, he is branded a bigot. Because of this outcry, the pulpit for the most part refuses to deal with the issues that have cursed the church and made her impotent. The results are, we have a mixture of the true and the false, and it is deemed a lack of love not to accept this. The truth is, to accept this Jezebel system is to receive a one-way ticket to the Tribulation. It doesn't matter how glamorous it may look, how many television stations on which it is seen, how much money it is able to raise, when it permits this mixture of the true and the false, it is hated by God. When I speak of religion, I am speaking mainly of the neo-Pentecostal world. There is every indication that the battle is being set between this Jezebel harlot system and the true church. On the one hand, we have the mixture of the world and Christ, totally void of conviction. On the other hand, a voice is being raised in this wilderness calling for a separation from the world. When Elijah came the first time with a message to God's people, his message was, "...Prepare ye the way of the Lord..." (Mark 1:3) When he returns in the Tribulation, his message will be, "Prepare yourself for the coming of the Lord and His bride." Between the First and Second Coming, the spirit of Elijah came in the man known as John the Baptist. John's message was, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord." John came in the spirit of Elijah. What is that spirit? A spirit of preparation for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. These developments today demand that the spirit of Elijah return to the church now. The neo-Pentecostal has accepted the false. She is filled with the spirit of Jezebel, and will accept anything that is sensational as being of God. If it's big, if it draws a crowd, it is accepted without question. Many who have been caught up in this deplorable situation are now having a second look. The climate is ripe for a John the Baptist to cry for separation. I believe many have seen that this is a dead-end street. The cry is, "There is no life here, it's imitation, it's false. It is a Trojan Horse, mechanically marching around walls that never fall." The message to the church must be "repent" for the coming of the Lord is at hand. She must repent of her prayerlessness. There is a leaving of the altar that has left the door open for this mixture

to come in. The intercessor has left the altar, leaving a hole in the wall. The hedge has been broken, and a serpent has bitten the church. It is all because of the prayerlessness that prevails in the church today. It is not enough to say that I am going to begin praying again. There must be repentance, deep repentance. We've sinned against God. Millions have gone to hell because we have not prayed as we should. Then there must be repentance about our indifference to God, about this tragic mixture that's come into the church. Look at it. Anything is accepted as Christian living. No matter what a man believes, he is accepted into the Pentecostal church. There are men who claim they are God, who preach a born again Jesus, who preach that Jesus became demonic on that cross, had to burn in hell to save us. There is one who preaches there are 9 persons in the Godhead. That same man said the Holy Spirit showed him that a man could receive the blood through a wafer as well as by the Holy Spirit. We have allowed this tragic mixture to sit on our platform, and become a part of our fellowship. We must repent deeply. We must repent of our unholy interest in things. The church is so occupied with the world that Christ is really not her Lord. "As it was in the days of Noah..." What was it in the days of Noah? They were eating and drinking and marrying and giving in marriage, without a thought of impending doom. It was business as usual, in the face of the threatening storm. Look at the church today. There is absolutely no alarm. The church is sleeping in light while the world sleeps in darkness. Once more the church must hear that this world system is an enemy of God. The evil of the world system is first, its ability to distract us from God. The old songwriter wrote, "Prone to wander. God, I feel Him. Prone to leave the God I love." Why? Because we are mindful of where we came from. Paul writing in Hebrews said, if we are mindful of where we come from, we will return. The second evil of the world system is the world's ability to be very religious. The prosperity message has produced millions seeking the loaves and the fishes. They come to church not to love God, to find God, but to use God. The church is a stepping stone to their own self-realization. The Bible has become to them a means to gaining their own worldly desires. It is a humanistic message that is being proclaimed. The message of the Bible is not money, it is Jesus. When Elijah came, his message was a call for national and religious purity. There is nothing more hated by God than this unholy mixture. What was true of Israel is now true of the church. Peter wrote, "Ye are a holy nation." God said to this holy nation, the church, "Ye are in the world but not of the world." For the world to be saved it must come God's way. We cannot win the world by looking, acting, and talking like them. Today, instead of reaching the idolatrous, they have reached the church. We must have compassion for those who are blinded by religion, but we must also know that God will not tolerate mixture. Truth without love will kill. You can be mean and hard. God said, "Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of meekness..." (Galatians 6:1) Consider yourself, lest you be tempted also. There must be compassion. You can feed a computer truth, but a computer is totally emotionless. It can throw a soul into hell without a tear. We are not computers. We must have truth, we must preach truth, but

there also must be compassion. Our desire to turn men from darkness to light must be out of pity, knowing they are lost, and it must be out of our love for God that we secure this body for Christ, who bought them with such a great price. But that compassion, that pity, must not blind me to truth. When our compassion overrides our conviction, we are no longer worthy to be the voice of God. What we face in the church today is the same Jezebel System that Elijah faced at Carmel. It is the same system later found in Thyatira. It is a mixture of flesh and Spirit, and that produces the mixture of truth and error. The Spirit would never allow error, but when we allow the mixture of flesh and Spirit, you are going to have error mixed with the truth. This must be faced up to. We must not allow in the church what God does not allow. I cannot speak too plainly about this. In this school, there are those who God is going to use to purge His church of this mixture. I may have given this illustration in another lesson, but it will bear repetition. I was on a religious television show in which I had never heard such testimonies. One woman had to get on first because she was going to sing in a gambling casino that night at midnight, so she had to give her testimony first. I asked the question, "What is she going to testify about?" The director said, "About being born again." "How can you be born again and sing in such places?" I asked. Oh, I was looked upon as being completely void of love or feeling. Progressively it got worse. I sat there and listened to all of this. Finally, I was able to preach and left. The driver took me back to the hotel. Alone in the hotel I cried out to God. "How are you ever going to rid your church of this unholy mixture?" Instantly the answer came. I sat up in that bed. God said, "I never used Saul to kill Goliath." I knew exactly what He said. He reached back and got that little shepherd who had a handful of sheep. David was brought to the forefront of the battle to kill that giant. You in this audience, the world may not know you, but God knows you. God is preparing you to face up to this mixture. There is only one way to God, and the church must boldly reject every other way, and every effort to mix anything with that way. She must reject any attempt to mix other ways with God's ways. God hates every false way, therefore the church must be purged of every belief that is not Bible. Paul warned the Galatians that God would not permit the slightest mixture. The Galatians were attempting to mix law and grace. Paul's answer was, "...justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." (Galatians 5:4) God has not come to share Himself with us. He has come to live His life through His body, the church. When we willfully allow the church to be mixed in her beliefs, when we willfully turn our heads from the worldliness that has invaded the ranks of the church, the Spirit of life is held in suspense. Even though we can act religiously, feign gifts, teach people how to talk in tongues, there is nothing of a real spiritual nature taking place. Out of this mixture comes the gross immorality of our day. If we had not allowed this mixture, this immorality that is found in the biggest names of religion, and all through the ranks, would never have been. Before Jesus came the first time, John the Baptist showed up preaching this message, "...Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight." (Matthew 3:3). Folk came from all over to hear the message, "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." What was the kingdom of heaven? "...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

(John 1:29) The kingdom came in with that proclamation. John came in the spirit of Elijah warning men that Messiah was coming. John's message of repentance demanded that men turn from what they were to Jesus. There was no compromise in the message. To the soldier, "be content with your wages. Treat every man justly." To the publican, "stop stealing the state's money." To the religious, "The ax is laid at the root of the tree. You cannot bring that false in there." To the king, "not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." Once more, in the end of this age, the Spirit of God in some Elijah must proclaim to the church that God will not accept her worldliness. He will not accept her mixture of truth and error. The message must be clear and concise. There cannot be any latitude. If we allow God to heal His church, the church will heal the nation. "If my people, (that's the church) which are called by my name (that's you and me), will humble ourselves and pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal our land." Revival will heal the nation.
