November 8, 2005: November General Body Meeting Minutes
1. Professor Allen’s reception to take place immediately after tonight’s meeting. Begins at
7pm. Corey, Rashad & Joelle will speak.
2. Treasury/Johanna: BLSA dues are $30.
3. Alumni/Carlla: Carlla is in the process of updating alumni information. Alumni to hold a
mixer on December 2, 2005.
4. Fundraising/Natalie: Business card sale scheduled. Exam-grams for December.
5. FDMCC/Ejim: Briefs due November 15th.
6. 1L Coordinators: Session regarding outlines & studying planned for next Wednesday.
Session regarding finals scheduled for after Thanksgiving.
a. LEEWS session
b. Please continue to interact with your BLSA buddies.
7. Community Service/Brian: Norris Square tutoring to begin in January.
a. Elderly outreach planned at Centennial Village. Need response by Friday.
b. Pepper Hamilton event planned - Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.
c. Uhuru Furniture store seeking furniture donations. Suggested by Anthony Noble.
8. Admissions: Leon spoke to students in Houston.
9. Board appointments: Andrea is on BGAPSA board. Allison is on ULFCC Sadie Steering
Committee.
10. Website should be finished at this point.
11. Professional Development/Kwasi: Kwasi to hand out resume books at end of meeting.
12. Charys to meet with Deans and ALSA presidents.
13. Professor Robinson seeks black people over 25 years old for statistics. $10 per person,
will not take over 1 hour. Payment may be donated to BLSA, but this is not required.
14. Rutgers BLSA president has invited us to their MLK event. They have offered to
participate in Sadie in return for our participation at their event.
15. Black History Month: to charge $5 for Taste of Diaspora. Need volunteers for getting in
touch w/ panelists.
16. Philadelphia sub-region President’s meeting to be held on Friday, November 18.
17. Sadie Conference/ Allison & Jocelyn: Keynote speaker is Kathleen Cleaver. Yale law
grad.
a. Date: February 17, 2006
b. Cost: Tickets are $35.
c. Location: Doubletree @ Locust & Broad
d. Volunteers: Letters need to be stuffed in preparation for firm sponsorship.
i. Charys volunteered.
e. Allison & Jocelyn have been in touch with administration to clear their schedules.
f. Charys, Daque and Carlla have met with Anthony E. Gay of Verizon Wireless,
Cynthia Williams Fordham of the Pennsylvania PUC and Donyale Yvette Hooper
Reavis of Elam Reavis to sponsor pre-dinner reception at Sadie. Will need $3250
for open bar. [Penn African American Law Alumni Society]
i. BLSA is invited to PAALAS Happy Hour on December 2nd.
