Thank You!! We want to thank everyone who supported our three annual events in 2010: the 7th Annual Mother’s
Day Tea, 5th Annual Fall Fellowship Breakfast and, most recently, the 10th Annual Cookie Walk; yes, the one where we
sold in 20 minutes the more than 4,000 cookies that all of you baked!
Your support helps us provide funds for our UMW mission work throughout the year. We also thank you for your
support for our Christmas missions programs:
Operation Christmas Child - we delivered 53 shoeboxes this year; and the Mitten Tree which provides warm hats,
gloves, scarves through the Help Center.
Thanks to the youth for spending the evening with the home-
less to play cards and other games and fill their night with fun
activities. We hope they’ll forgive us if we made too much noise
or got too excited for them while playing Nertz!

Mark your calendars for February 5th & 6th! The Laugh Doctor is in town and visiting Elkton United Methodist
Church! Start next weekend off Saturday morning by attending one of the Prayer Breakfasts graciously presented
by the members of our church. Locations of breakfasts and sign up sheets are located in the hospitality area. Then
purchase your tickets for the catered dinner held at Elkton High School. The dinner will take place promptly at 5:30
p.m., Saturday, February 5th and costs $10 per adult, $5 per child, with a cost of no more than $30 per family. Get
your tickets as soon as possible because we are bound to sell out! After dinner, plan to listen and laugh with Dr.
Clifford Kuhn, “The Laugh Doctor”. Dr. Kuhn is a physician, medical school professor, humorist, professional speaker,
and personal counselor who helps people improve their health and well being by teaching them how to add fun and
laughter to their lives.
On Sunday morning at both services, Dr. Kuhn’s message will focus on how to bring joy into our lives, no matter what
we are facing.
We’ve all heard the phrase, “Laughter is the best medicine”. In Dr. Kuhn’s presentation, he will prove the truth of this
statement, share scientific evidence for it, and teach each of us how to capture humor’s stress reducing benefits. You and
your whole family won’t want to miss the entertaining HA HA HA Prescription. It’s guaranteed to help you gain more
positive energy in your lives. Please plan to attend this evening - you have nothing to lose but your stress!

Family Fun in February
Tired of being trapped in the house with bored kids? Then come out with your church family to Elk Lanes in Elkton
on Sunday, February 20th, at 1 p.m. for some bowling fun. Children and adults aged five and above are able to bowl.
For younger children, the bowling alley does put bumper guards up, so don’t worry about too many gutter balls for the
little ones. We will all meet at Elk Lanes at1 p.m. Shoe rental is free, and it’s $3 per bowler per game. (One or two games
are usually more than enough for kids and out of shape adults like me). It will be a great time. Eat lunch at home or
bring snacks with you; the bowling alley also has food if you’d like to buy lunch. Please try to register so that I will have
a general idea as to how many are interested either by signing up on the sheet across the hall from the church office or
by emailing email@example.com. If you have questions please feel free to contact me anytime. See you there!

YOUTH GROUP YOUNG ADULTS
“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” Psalm 25:5
By Sandy Wherry
Are you buying groceries this month to feed hungry mouths at your house? Do you need a birthday gift for that
special someone? Are you sending college students back to school? Could they use a gift card to their favorite
coffee shop or Wawa so they can make those late night snack raids while studying? We can help … purchase Scrip
(meaning substitute money) gift cards from the youth group. They won’t cost you any more money than you were
already planning to spend; they’re as easy to use as money and the church benefits from your purchase … a win/win
situation! You’re helping the church with your purchase because the companies pay a percentage to us every time you
buy a gift card. They are available for most grocery stores, restaurants, and almost any other store you would consider.
If you know you’re going to spend $100.00 a week at the grocery store, you can buy a $100.00 card from us for that store
and shop just like usual. If you don’t spend the complete amount, it will remain on your card until you spend it all. The
cards can be ordered anytime, but the best time might be on Sunday (from the staff office), you can pick them up the
following Sunday and do your shopping, or send that gift to that special someone. The youth/church earned $500.00
from your purchases at Christmas. Thank you for all your help!
Upcoming Events for Youth
The Youth will be participating in
the Joy of Faith Breakfast on Saturday,
February 5th and a weekend retreat
on March 4th, 5th, and 6th begin-
ning with a trip to the Baltimore Blast
game. Also, don’t forget we start the
prom boutique very soon! Please
remember to invite your friends to
youth group for fun and fellowship
as we learn and grow in Christ.
The youth group had a very successful weekend at the Youth Rally held in Ocean City, MD. We heard from several
speakers and musicians about our witness as fellow Christians. We were encouraged to respond to others as Christ
would by being his hands and feet and reach out to those in need. There were several mission projects available for us
to participate in on Saturday afternoon. We could help bag 45,000 pounds of potatoes into 10 pound sacks, clean up the
beach or park, wash windows for senior citizens, pack school supplies or items needed in disaster areas - such as floods
here or abroad (these were some of the items we collected here at church for UMCOR). Our youth group participated
in packing the 18 wheeler truck with the school supplies and the UMCOR buckets. We carried them down 2 flights of
stairs, out the door of the convention center, through the parking lot, loaded them onto the truck, and stacked them
inside so they could be taken to a central location to be used as needed. We all felt very humbled by the work that we
did. We thank our parents and the church for seeing the need in this weekend.
We wish to thank the Fetterolfs for going with us to cook our food while we were busy and most importantly to have
it ready the minute we walked in the door so that we could move on to the next event. We also want to thank our other
chaperones: Veronica Marshall, Jeanette Perkins, and Terri Lokey. Thanks also goes out to the college students who
participated and helped where needed.

Calling All Travelers
Just a reminder that the Classic Christians are sponsoring a multi-day bus trip to Maine in May. Taking place Monday,
May 9th through Thursday, May 12th the trip includes stops in Portland and Kennebunkport, harbor cruises and a
lobster bake! Cost of the trip is $429 per person (double occupancy) and can be paid in three installments (Feb., March
and April). Flyers on the trip can be found on the table across from Rev. Bunnell’s office. The bus is sure to fill up soon,
so get your reservations in as soon as possible!
Just a reminder that if you come to the church during the weekday hours, please park in front of the church and enter
through the doors near Karen’s office. We need to keep the parking lot clear for the construction crew working on our
building expansion project. Many, many thanks to all of you for your patience during this exciting and challenging
time in the life of our church! Before you know it, the project will be completed and we’ll be enjoying wonderful new
classrooms, a brand new parking lot - and more than that, we’ll be able to welcome new people into the life of our
church and a relationship with the Lord!
