This checklist has been prepared by the Safety Section of the Division of Fiscal Services,
in cooperation and coordination with the Division of Education and Training, Kentucky
Department of Labor.

This checklist is to be used by school safety committees and staff to conduct both
periodic safety inspections and the required semi-annual safety certification.

The checklist has its basis in safety and health standards of the Kentucky Occupational
Safety and Health Program. It has been designed to enhance compliance with the rules
and regulations adopted in accordance with state and federal regulation. However,
compliance with this checklist does not necessarily insure full compliance with all
Kentucky occupational safety and health standards.

This checklist is designed in such a manner that a negative answer to any question
indicates an area of safety concern. If a particular question is not applicable, “N/A”
should be annotated to the side of the question.

Should you have questions concerning interpretations or clarifications of material in this
checklist or the requirements for its mandatory use, please contact the safety section,
phone (502) 564-4286.
