I am a big fan of the concept of free. Many people are with me on
this idea, especially with all the financial craziness that exists in the
world today. I love to find free things, and one of the best ways to
find them is on the Internet. Some people are Craigslist junkies,
always looking for a good deal, but I go one step further. Freecycle. Gene and Ilse Williams of Tecumseh will celebrate 50 years of

important McPartlin artifacts were given away to a man with a large-

to see someone outside of the family get all the old nails, screws,
washers and unused miniblinds, but the McPartlin children were all
able to make peace with the idea that these treasures would be loved
and cared for even if it was by a stranger.
Some people, like my sister Molly and my sister-in-law Melissa,
like having a garage sale to make some money while getting rid of
their extra things. I don’t like using those little stickers to put prices
on things, or figuring out what to charge for my junk, or haggling
with people over the prices I’ve set, or all the other little details that
are part and parcel of having a garage sale. I really like sitting in
front of my computer and sending out an email with my list of items
that are ready to go. No haggling, no pricing, and instead of sitting all
day in my garage, I sit in my house and wait for people to come and
take away my unwanted items.
As for finding things I want, instead of driving around looking at
garage sales for cool stuff, I sit at home and read my freecycle
emails. Less gas, less hassle, more time to do other fun things. And
people give away all kinds of cool things that can be used for art
projects as well as unwanted clothes and kitchen items. Once I found
an old film movie camera someone was giving away, another time I
was gifted with a red metal kitchen cart from the 1950s, and I have a
large wooden swing in my backyard thanks to a generous freecycle
soul. By joining a spin-off group called plantcycle I have added Mr. and Mrs. Robert Randall, of Tecumseh, are celebrating 60
