The Career Advancement Year aims to enable nurses to provide excellent paediatric nursing care in a family
centred environment.

As a participant in the Career Advancement Year, you will become an integral part of a multidisciplinary team
that is committed to making a difference to the health and wellbeing of infants, children and young adults.

Upon successful completion of the program there is scope for you to further your career as a Registered Nurse
within the Royal Children's Hospital or to pursue a range of postgraduate education opportunities across a
variety of specialties.

numerous learning opportunities to develop your career in paediatric nursing.

        Operating Suite
        Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
Structure

         Approximately 30 placements available
         12 month program (including 6 weeks annual leave)
         2 x 6 month clinical rotations
         Orientation and preceptorship
         Facilitated learning in the clinical environment
         Four paid development and learning days in addition to structured supernumerary time


Clinical training and assessment

         Performance appraisal undertaken at 6 weeks and 6 months per rotation
         Paediatric CPR
         Paediatric drug awareness package
         Emergency procedures training
         Smartllift training
         Unit specific competencies


Interview process

Key Selection Criteria

RCH specific criteria (interview)

In the interview the applicant must demonstrate:

         Passion for working with children and their families
         The ability to critically think, question and reflect
         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

If selected for interview you will be requested to bring:

         Your nursing professional references
         Completed rotation form
         Photo ID eg. driver's licence or passport

The interview will consist of a two-person panel and the applicant.

Interviews will typically last 20 to 30 minutes.
