Dedicated to seeing an end to the cycle of domestic violence, Safe House of Seminole
reaches out to educate the community and provide a coordinated response to prevent the
epidemic of domestic violence. This response includes the provision of an emergency
shelter, counseling services, crisis intervention, community education, and professional
training, as well as the coordination of a domestic violence task force for the purpose of
creating systemic change.

The Victims’ Service personnel at the Sarasota Police Department offer assistance to any
victim of a criminal act committed within the city limits of Sarasota. Assistance includes
support and guidance at the time of the initial incident and throughout the criminal justice
process; attend and transport victim to various court proceedings and to crime related
medical/dental appointments. Assistance also includes help with Victim Compensation
claims and referral for other community services

The Victims’ Assistance Program of the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office provides assistance to
anyone who has been the victim of a reported crime in Sarasota County. If the victim
assistant is unable to meet all necessary needs, referral may be made to a community
service agency for additional help. The staff will provide support to victims and their
families throughout the criminal justice process and assist with Victim Compensation
claims.

A private, non-profit agency, that provides services to victims of domestic violence and
rape in Sarasota County. Among other things, services include a 24 hour hotline for crisis
interventions, a secretly located shelter home for battered women and their minor

violence, and an educational/therapeutic program for people who batter.

Assess abuse and neglect of Florida's children and vulnerable adults. Serves as a central
receiving and referral point for all cases of suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation of
children, disabled adults and seniors. Receives complaints alleging abuse, neglect or
exploitation on a 24-hour/7 days a week basis. Clients include seniors (age 60 and up)
and adults (18-59) with physical and mental incapacity who are unable to protect
themselves from abuse, neglect or exploitation. Reports are immediately sent to the
appropriated Children & Families office responsible for completing the investigative
process. Anyone wishing to make a report of abuse for either a child or adult can contact
the Florida Abuse Hotline at the toll-free number, 1-800-96-ABUSE. The person taking
the call at the abuse hotline will collect what information is available from the caller and
determine whether the allegations warrant further investigation. If further information is
deemed necessary, the matter is referred to a child protective investigator or adult
protective investigator in the appropriate district of the department where the alleged
victim is located. This office also issues statewide alerts and requests to locate victims
who have been abused or neglected.

The mission of the Community Medical Clinic is to provide specialty care referral
services to those residents of Sarasota County who truly demonstrate a financial need.
Providing access to care for those individuals who are uninsured or underinsured, or
those who do not have the financial resources to receive specialty care elsewhere is the
primary goal. Proof of Sarasota County Residency (current picture identification and/or
utility bill in your name with your complete address) is required. Low income and little or
