Tauranga Hospital – Bay of Plenty- New Zealand
The Bay of Plenty District Health Board covers two main hospital sites –
In the Western Bay of Plenty – Tauranga Hospital and
In the Eastern Bay of Plenty – Whakatane Hospital
Tauranga Hospital is a 326 bed upper secondary hospital situated on the east coast of the central
North Island. We enjoy a moderate climate ranging between 12-16 degrees during winter and 20
– 28 degrees during summer.
Aptly named the Bay of Plenty offers fantastic lifestyle “treats” – surfing,
swimming, boating, fishing, diving, tramping, wining and dining and is a
popular base for RMO’s keen on cycling, triathlons and marathons. We are
within reasonable driving access to other New Zealand hotspots – Auckland (2
½ hours), Rotorua (1 hour), Taupo (1 ½ hours) and a 2 ½ hours drive from
two popular North Island ski fields.
The population of Tauranga is 105,000 and we serve a catchment area of
150,000 people.
Tauranga Hospital is well into a $ 110 million redevelopment programme. In June 07 the new
theatre suites opened (2 additional theatres) and the new outpatient and allied health areas also
opened. The new ward tower will follow (increasing bed numbers) and will include refurbishment
of existing areas.

Accommodation:
Not surprisingly the majority of our RMO’s elect to live in Mt Maunganui (close to the beach).
Currently RMOs are paying between $ 100 – 130 per week per person; shared 3 bedroom
accommodation, mostly within walking distance to the beach or downtown Mt Maunganui area. It
is approximately a 20 minute drive from Mt Maunganui to the hospital car park. Tauranga
accommodation is slightly cheaper and travel time to the hospital from most areas of town is
between 10-15 minutes.
Why would you want to work here?
Why not!
This could be you…….
