children for Special Olympics sports training and competition.
 • Due to the growth of our athlete base, we have expanded our sports selection
to include Croquet, Curling, Flag Football, and Cheerleading.
 • In June, we launched the Unified Arts program in 20 schools throughout the
state. An SOCT athlete will be paired with a peer student to create a piece
of artwork that will be showcased at the 2011 Summer Games.
 • The Healthy Athletes program continues its growth and is being offered at
many of our larger statewide competitions.

Many of these accomplishments were made possible due to the tremendous
support we’ve received from our sponsors, donors, tireless volunteers, and
our dedicated staff.

Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® is Special Olympics’ single largest grass-roots
fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. The International Torch Run Program
raised more than $38 million last year for Special Olympics world-wide. At its most
basic level, the Connecticut Torch Run is an actual running event where officers
and athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” across the state for 3 days with the final
destination being the Opening Ceremony of the Summer Games. Additionally, all
year long, the Torch Run program encompasses a variety of fundraising vehicles,
such as Tip-a-Cops, Cop-on-Tops, basketball tournaments and much more!
