Scoil Mochua, Oulart September Newsletter 2011 Dear Parent(s) Tá fáilte romhaibh ar ais i gcomhair bliain nua agus fíor– fháilte roimh na daltai is na clainn nua! Firstly I would like to welcome our two new teachers, Miss Dawn Whelan and Miss Sinead Piper, to our school. Secondly I wish to draw your attention to our website www.oulartns.scoilnet.ie which I’ve upgraded over the Summer and contains latest news, electronic versions of this newsletter and calendar for the year. Looking forward to your continued support and cooperation. Beir bua, John Brennan. Dates for your Diary Tuesday Sept. 13th: BOM meeting in school at 8.00pm See website for calendar for 2011-12 Homework Club Homework Club begins Monday Sept 26th and will run for 10 weeks consecutively. It will cost €20 per child. If interested please forward fee to Secretary by September 19th . Absences Parents / Guardians are reminded that there is a legal obligation on the Principal to record every absence of every child throughout the school year, with an added obligation of reporting absences of over 20 days to the Educational Welfare Board. Parents/guardians are asked to ring the school Secretary on the morning of an absence and to write a note of explanation in the pupil’s homework journal following an absence or give a note to the class teacher. The class rolls are called at 10.am approximately each morning. Pupils who arrive after said time are marked absent Savings There is a voluntary savings scheme facilitated by the school. Every Tuesday pupils may purchase Post Office saving stamps from our Student Council. When the card is full the €20 must be lodged in the PO Deposit Account from which withdrawals may be made. School insurance A form outlining the Allianz Pupil Insurance Scheme is enclosed. While not compulsory the BOM would urge all parents / guardians to seriously consider taking out the 24 hours cover for €8 and we would ask all pupils wishing to avail of the scheme to have the forms and money back into school by Friday 23rd September. Clothes/requisite Labelling: Please ensure that your child’s clothes, school requisites or sports equipment are either clearly labelled or are marked in such a way as your child can identify them. Healthy Lunches Scoil Mochua operates a successful healthy Lunch Policy. Please find enclosed the recommended school lunches. Swimming Swimming begins Wednesday Sept 14th for Scoil Mochua for pupils of 6th, 4th and 2nd classes and runs for 5 weeks. The bus will leave the school at 2.30pm and will return at approximately 4.20 pm. Swimming covers the Aquatics strand of the Physical Education curriculum. Swimming costs €35 per pupil. Parents who have already paid €40 for this terms lessons will receive a refund in due course. Book Rental/Schoolbags/Homework: Every effort was made to try and keep the “book bill” as low as possible and the “book rental” scheme as beneficial as possible to all who avail of it. Thanks to all who have already sent in their Book Rental money. We hope to have monies collected by the end of September. Book Rental costs €30 Art, Craft, Photocopying costs: €15. There are real concerns about the weight of school bags being carried to school. Children can leave books that they do not require for homework in school each evening. We would appreciate if you would regularly check the children’s bags to ensure that they are not carrying unnecessary requisites or an accumulation of paper to and from school. Where possible please ensure that your child tries to do the homework set every night and sign the Homework Journal. School opening and closing times: Scoil Mochua opens at 9.20am and closes at 3pm. Scoil Mochua does not take responsibility for supervision of pupils before 9.20. am To this end we advise pupils to assemble in the school grounds between 9.10 & 9.20. The school would greatly appreciate your support in this matter.
