Lane County
L ANE COUNTY EXTENDS from Cape Perpetua
to Siltcoos Lake. The rugged, undeveloped
stretch between Yachats and Florence is excep-
tionally scenic. Heceta Head Lighthouse is the
most photographed lighthouse on the coast
(some say in the country) and Sea Lion Caves is
one of the most visited sites in the state.
The largest town in western Lane County is
Florence, with a population of 7780, situated on
a bend of the Siuslaw River.A sandy spit
extends a few miles north, separating the town
from the ocean. With the river and many lakes
nearby, water sports and fishing are very popu-
lar. The sand dunes attract many off-highway
vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts. The sand dunes
extend south for approximately 40 miles to
Coos Bay and are part of the Oregon Dunes
National Rec Area.
