Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu 274

.

Without mking a judgement a s t o t h e i r purpose, several quite individual quart e r s m y be noted in the ruins of Machu Picchu : a quarter "of the Fanners" near the colossal terrasses whose slopes were cultivated and transform4 into hanging gardens; an "industrial" quarter; a "royal" quarter and a "religious" quart e r . Inca architecture reveals i t s e l f here in a l l of i t s force with the t i t a n i c earthenworks which multiplied the platforms, levelled the rocky r e l i e f , constructed ramps and stairways and l i t e r a l l y sculpted the muntain whose cyclopean constructions appear t o be a prolongat i o n of nature.

L'ICOFDS r e c o d e l'inscription de Y~chuPicchu sur l a l i s t e du Patrirmine m n d i a l au titre des critgres I e t 111.
