What warning system will be used if there is an emergency during school hours?
          Fire will use Fire Alarm
          Evacuation notification via Intercom

What mechanism is there for disseminating information during school hours? How
will this vary with different types of crisis?

The phone system, e-mail, intercom, walkie-talkies, and messengers will be used to disseminate
information during school hours. Appropriate communication will be matched to situation. (i.e.,
walkie talkies to be used during a power outage.) Each room on campus will have an emergency
binder located next to the exit. The binder will include laminated color cards (red and green) with
directions written on one side to be utilized by the teacher. An updated attendance list, pen light
and a whistle will be included in the pack.

What are the plans to keep parents and the community informed?

Written and oral communication via the Principal and Emergency Response Team dependent upon
specific situation. Terry Locke (x7650) in Community/Media Relations will be contacted to assist
with community relations. Family meetings will be held at school as necessary.



Target 2: Prepare school Personnel to Respond Effectively to
Crisis
What is the plan to prepare or train the Emergency Response Team?

The Emergency Response Team will receive training/inservice each semester. The school will have
monthly drills to practice various crisis codes.


How will the full staff receive orientation to the safety and Emergency Response
plan?

The staff will have an orientation each August during in-service days. The staff will also
participate in the monthly practice drills. Emergency Response information will also be available in
Substitute folders. Team Leaders will brief substitutes on emergency procedures.

Target 3: To use the Building in an Efficient Manner in the
Event of a Crisis
What provisions have been made to orient emergency workers to the buildings
layout?

A map of the general layout of campus is located on the inside of the alarm box in the office and
posted in each classroom. The Principal will provide detailed blueprint of buildings. The blueprints
are located in Storeroom – bottom shelf of the brown cabinet.



Where are the up-to-date floor plan and room assignments kept?

   Each classroom and the front office have up-to-date floor plans and room assignments,
    procedures and needed information.
   The office will maintain an Emergency Response Book including evacuation plans and procedures.

List all hazardous material/chemicals and storage location on campus (e.g.,
cleaning fluids, chemistry lab, art classroom storage, etc.).

Cleaning supplies (see attached list); paint and petroleum products are located in the custodial
closet next to the multi-purpose room. Additional tempera paints, white glue, rubber cement are
located in classrooms. Texas Marker Ink is located in the supply room in the front office.



Which rooms will be designated for individual and/or group counseling?

   Group counseling will take place in the Media Center.
   Individual counseling will take place in the small offices off the Media Center, Speech, and LD
    Resource rooms.



Where will a Command Post/Emergency Response coordination headquarters be
located?

   The District and Conley Emergency Response Teams as a working area to coordinate Emergency
    Response Team activities will use Offices A & B and the Teacher Workroom in the Main Office
    building.
   The Principal’s office will be utilized for media activities.



A copy of the detailed building evacuation plan is attached.

                      CAMPUS LOCK-DOWN
Intercom signals, “Campus Lock Down”. Secure your rooms.
TEACHER PROCEDURES:
1.  Scan area outside your door and summon any students in close proximity into your room.
2. Place magnetic green card on outside surface of door to indicate SAFE status.
    Green = Safe (not for attendance). NO card displayed = Problem. We no longer use RED.
3. Lock door and turn off lights (doors should be locked whenever you leave your room).
4. Children should be quiet and below cabinet in a “duck and cover” position. Assume “duck and
    cover” position unless announcement has been made to indicate otherwise.
5. Take attendance
    - Call or Email “Command Post” in subject bar : All clear(safe and secure) or SOS(help needed)
    - In the message space indicate who is missing (do not include absences/early dismissals) and
    where they might be (i.e., Juan Ortiz – 3rd grade bathroom, Julie Jones – Nurse). Also indicate
    all adults that are with you.
    - SUBSTITUTES – Team leader will call you.
    - Do not release or admit any children from the classroom.
6. DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR. Wait for the “ALL CLEAR” announcement or for an
    administrator, safety, or police officer to unlock your door.

SPECIALIST PROCEDURES:
Call Office at 480-812-6226 directly and disclose your location if you are not in a classroom.
TEAM LEADERS:
        Collect info. from teammates via cell phone or email.
        If they don’t email you, call them.
        Give 1 report for your entire grade to the designated contact:

MULTI PURPOSE ROOM (MPR)
Take students to the MPR stage. Follow teacher procedures listed above.
MEDIA CENTER/COMPUTER LAB
Immediately lock the door using the hex key located on the hook next to the door, and escort
students to the LD classroom (go through the Lit. Lab)
OFFICE:
1. Make announcement.
2. Place a sign on the front door to indicate emergency Lock Down/No admittance.
3. Lock doors.
4. Cover front windows and close blinds. Window covers are on inside of door.
5. Office staff works in tandem to secure office building.
6. Forward phones. Call District Office at x7000 or 480-812-7000.
7. Convene in Offices A (Mathew) and B (Martin)

SIGNALS FOR KIDS ON PLAYGROUND: Two (2) Long whistles, take to MPR stage or nearest
safe area.

                            1 Whistle blow = Freeze in Place
                         2 Whistle blows = Line up Immediately
                Short Frequent Whistle blows = Students Hit the Ground
                          * These signals are to be used at ALL times.

In the event of lost telecommunication links, cellular telephone may provide an effective means of
