JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Technical Assistant (Brigade Training Centre)
Location: Training Centre, Haddenham
Reporting to: Training School Manager
Responsible for: Not applicable
Salary: Band 1B1 – £19,289
Hours per week: 37
Purpose of Job:
To assist in the provision of administrative and technical support to Training Centre
personnel. Act as contact point for all communications and reception of staff and
visitors to events at the Training Centre.
The post holder will be expected to work for periods using their own initiative and
unsupervised, and therefore be willing to prioritise and manage their own workload to
achieve the expected levels of performance to support the training function.
Duties & Responsibilities
• To provide clerical administrative and technical support to staff in the Training
Centre
• Act as co-ordinator for staff and visitors attending the Training Centre for
courses or meetings.
• To produce training lectures/aids, Powerpoint presentations as required,
liaising with end user on content
• Set up input and maintain a data base of training records for all the Brigade
personnel to include Training Assessment Records, National Vocational
Qualifications data base, First Aid, Driving, Individual Qualifications, Breathing
Apparatus, Water Safety, Fire Service College Courses etc
• Book and organise courses for the whole brigade including locally held
courses, external courses, driving school courses etc
• Produce copies of reports and training notes as required, liaising with staff as
necessary on content

• Maintain a technical library of Fire Service Manuals and other publications
and carry out research on such subjects as required and directed by staff
• Produce drawings or technical illustrations as directed by staff and to provide
technical assistance on visual aids.
• Prepare, produce and provide technical advice on visual aids as required by
Training personnel
• Receive incoming telephone calls emails and mail. Direct the material to the
responsible officer.
• Assist Training Centre Manager to maintain budgets for Training School,
update records, produce periodic statements.
• Collect and deliver materials where necessary for courses
• Help to prepare and then produce course notes for internal courses, and for
all other courses as needed including driving courses
• Have a good working knowledge of Word, Snowdrop, Excel, Access.
• Undertake any duties as from time to time that may be directed by the
Training School Manager, ie opening and securing premises, preparing
rooms for events, preparing or maintaining light equipment, assisting with
testing of light equipment and testing of fire alarm.
• Assist the Training School Manager with brigade course nominations and
joining instructions for like and distribute as needed.
• Keep records of all loaned Training School equipment
• To maintain all stationery consumables, stocks involved with the running of
Training Centre
• To order and maintain catering supplies for courses and Training Centre
personnel.
• Have the ability to manage and prioritise workloads to a tight schedule and
unsupervised.
• Maintaining in conjunction with Training Centre Manager, Petty Cash records.
• Carry out filing, photocopying and any other tasks as required by Training
Centre Manager
• Be prepared to undertake in-house training
