                                               INSTRUCTIONS



1. Application must be typewritten using the latest state template. Application may be printed in
     copy and typed or typed into the electronic template. Application must be printed on white paper.

2. The following additional documentation must accompany the application:
     a. Certified high school transcript
     No additional supporting information is to be included.

3. Applications should be stapled on the top left corner with supporting materials clipped to the
     back. Do not place applications or materials in an award folder.

4. The Application must be fully certified with all signatures.

5. Complete applications and supporting materials due April 9th by 4:20 PM

SECTION VII. CANDIDATE CERTIFICATION

A. Lanier FFA Officer Job Description (Texas FFA Policy Handbook 6.01)

(a) The primary responsibility of a state officer is to serve the Texas FFA Association in local, district, area and state
activities in a way that will inform, motivate and inspire FFA members, advisors, state staffs, teachers and others to achieve
the mission, strategies and core goals of the organization and to represent the state association in state meetings according
to board policy and at the direction of the Lanier FFA advisors.

(b) State officers serve under the supervision of the Lanier FFA Advisors and Lanier High School staff in accordance with
official policy and budget limits. More specific responsibilities include:
     (1) Participate in training, orientation, continual self-improvement and evaluation of activities as directed by the state
     staff.
     (2) Serve as a member of the Board of Student Officers at all meetings as required by the Lanier FFA Advisors.


     (3) Participate in making visits to business and industry as directed by the Lanier FFA Advisors.


     (4) Represent the Lanier FFA Association at chapter, district, area and state activities as requested by local advisors
     and area coordinators within the scope Texas FFA Association officer and travel policies.



     (5) Participate in the planning and conducting of Leadership Conferences and other student conferences, working
     under the direction of the Lanier FFA Advisors
     (6) Participate in the planning and conducting of annual area leadership conferences in his/her respective area,
     working under the direction of the area advisor or his/her designee..



     (7) Participate in the planning and conducting of sessions and other activities at the state FFA convention as assigned
     by the Lanier FFA Advisors.


     (9) Prepare and submit expense vouchers and other reports in accordance to board policy and as required by the
     Lanier FFA Advisors
     (10) Keep up to date with all correspondence.
     (11) Plan, prepare, read, study, listen, review and practice to continue improving public speaking and teaching skills.


     (12) Stay up to date on agriculture, agribusiness and agricultural education facts and issues.
     (13) Develop positive relationships with FFA members, advisors, staff, sponsors and the general public.
     (14) Develop and exercise an awareness and sensitivity for the diverse geographic, ethnic and cultural
     groups represented in FFA membership and the general student population.
     (15) Maintain a positive attitude and enjoy your year of service with members, advisors, staff,
     sponsors and others.
     (16) Follow the Officer Commitment Form.
     (17) Perform other duties as instructed by the Lanier FFA Advisors and in complete accordance to
     Texas FFA Association Board Policy.

B. Lanier FFA Officer Commitment Pledge (Texas FFA Policy Handbook Section 6.02)

    AS A TEXAS STATE FFA OFFICER, I WILL:
    (1) Be dedicated and committed to FFA and the total agricultural education program.
    (2) Be willing to commit the entire year to state officer activities.
    (3) Become knowledgeable of agriculture, agricultural education and the FFA.
    (4) Through preparation and practice, develop myself into an effective public speaker and project a desirable
          image of FFA at all times.
    (5) Regularly and on time write all letters, thank-you notes, reports and other correspondence, which are
          necessary and desirable.
    (6) Accept and search out constructive criticism and evaluation of my total performance.
    (7) Be willing to take and follow instructions as directed by those responsible for me.
    (8)   Use the Texas FFA Association’s resources  and assets responsibly and only to the benefit of the
          Texas FFA Association
    (9) Obligate the Texas FFA Association to a contract, debt or commitment only if I have been expressly
          authorized in writing to do so and acknowledge that I will be personally liable for any contract, debt or
          commitment I enter into in violation of this pledge.
    (10) In a timely manner, accurately report activities and expenditures with all supporting documentation.
    (11) As a representative of the state association, not publicly take positions which compromise the Texas
          FFA's position of neutrality in local issues or in state or national political affairs.
    (12) Comply entirely with the State Officer Code of Ethics. (As adopted by the 1990-91 State FFA Officer team)
         (a) To forgo all tobacco while involved in official and unofficial FFA activities and at all times refrain
              from consumption or possession of alcohol or any substance which is not legal for me to consume
              or possess.
         (b) To treat all FFA members equally by not favoring one over another.
         (c) To conduct myself in a manner that earns respect without display of superiority.
         (d) To maintain dignity while being personable, concerned and interested in my contacts with others.
         (e) To avoid places or activities which in any way would raise questions as to my moral character or conduct.
         (f) To consider FFA officer activities and school as my primary responsibilities.
         (g) To use wholesome language in all speeches and informal conversation.
         (h) To maintain proper dress and good grooming for all occasions.
         (i) Work in harmony with fellow FFA officers, and not knowingly engage in conversations detrimental to other
              FFA members, officers and adults.
         (j) To serve as a member of the state officer team always maintaining a cooperative attitude.
         (k) To keep myself up-to-date on current items.
         (l) To maintain and protect my health.
         (m) To be a professional and be on time.
         (n) Follow a curfew of 1:00 a.m. at all FFA activities.
    (13) Be mindful of the impact that I will have during my year as a state officer and always act or behave accordingly.
    (14) Respectfully adhere to board policy and treat all students, teachers and state staff with proper deference.

CANDIDATE CERTIFICATION
   I have read, studied, understand and accept the above provisions. If elected to state office, I will carry out my
   responsibilities in accordance with these statements and understand that I will be warned, suspended or discharged
   from office by the State FFA Executive Board in accordance to Texas FFA Association Board Policy if I do not
   satisfactorily follow these established standards for state officers. Furthermore, I have read and do understand the
   provisions of TXFFA Section 6.01 the student officer job description, and TXFFA PH 6.02 the student officer
   commitment pledge and commit myself to full compliance these provisions.
