                   Kaeja d’Dance Celebrates its 15th Anniversary!
                             Highlighting a series of local & international events

Kaeja d‟Dance is proud to announce 15 years of acclaimed contemporary dance, film and education programming
provided across Canada and the globe. Established in 1991, Co-Artistic Directors Karen & Allen Kaeja have
been dedicated to pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance creation and film, as well as developing
unprecedented education and outreach programs that continue to preserve and celebrate contemporary dance.
This year marks a flurry of activity. The Company has recently returned from a residency at the Banff Centre and
are continuing to develop a new collaborative work choreographed by Allen Kaeja and created in collaboration with
Jason Sherman (Writer), Fides Krucker (New Opera), Edgardo Moreno (Composer), Mark Christmann
(Dramaturge), Karen Kaeja and the Kaeja d‟Dance Company. In addition this April & May includes the following
events:

KAREN KAEJA - SOLO PERFORMANCE AT THE GUELPH CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL
Dancer/Choreographer Karen Kaeja and Singer/Songwriter Sue Smith embark on phase 1 of a new creation
titled the ‘Cold Beneath Me’. Inspired by aching and desolate Canadian winters, they investigate this „imagistic‟
landscape as a metaphor for the journey of aging, exposing the beauty of one's life force. Tanya Crowder & Andrea
Nann are also featured on the program. (Art Gallery is located beside the Guelph University Campus on Gordon St.)

April – May 2006 – Schools across the GTA
COMMUNITY LEAPS launched in 2005, this program brings dance enrichment opportunities to culturally
underserved schools in the Toronto area this month. Partnering with the Toronto District and Toronto Catholic
Schools Boards, Kaeja offers subsidized EXPRESS DANCE workshops, matinee performances and mentorship

ALLEN & KAREN KAEJA KEY NOTE SPEAKERS AT THE TEL-AVIV VIDEO DANCE FESTIVAL IN ISRAEL
Allen & Karen Kaeja are proud to announce their special invitation as key note speakers to Tel Aviv International
Dance/Film Festival, sponsored by Yad Vashem. Directors Allen Kaeja & Mark Adam's, Kaeja Film Series will also
be screened at the festival. Allen has also been invited to speak at Yad Vashem, the world renowned Holocaust
Memorial in Jerusalem, on the topic of contemporary Jewish culture.

ASYLUM OF SPOONS nominated for a Banff World Television Award in the Performance Category
Winners will be presented the coveted “Rockie” statuette at the Global Television Banff World Television Awards
show on Monday, June 12. Prior to the awards show, the nominees will be featured in Best of Banff World
Television Award Tours and in the Best of Interactive Television From Around the World panel. The program
nominees represent 24 countries making this a truly, global event.

Kaeja d’Dance is a contemporary dance company led by Co-Artistic Directors Allen and Karen Kaeja. They are
internationally acclaimed for their choreography, films, teaching, running of festivals and performance work. It is
their seamless collaborative style that has been captivating audiences across Canada and in countries such as
England, India, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the United States and Venezuela. In the last 15 years the
