HOW MICRO CREDIT WORKS



   Groups of five prospective borrowers are formed

   In the first stage, only two of them are eligible
    for, and receive, a loan

   The group is observed by other members
HOW MICRO CREDIT WORKS

   Loans are small

   Used to finance the micro-enterprises undertaken
    by borrowers

   The interest rate on all loans is 16 percent.

   Originated in the year 1976 by Dr Muhammad Yunus

   No collateral securities

   Out of 7.80 million borrowers, 97% are woman.

   2,548 branches, 84,096 villages and a total staff of 23,799.

   Net sum of loan: US $ 7.88 billion.

   Repayment: US $ 6.99 billion has been repaid.

   68% families of Grameen borrowers are now above poverty
    line.
