Facebook: How does it work?
Facebook users can join networks organized by
city, workplace, school, and region. (Kitchener,
ON; London, ON)
Users can add friends, and send them
messages. (i.e. Pauline Houston is now friends
with the City of Kitchener)
Facebook: Profile page
A profile page allows a user to fill out personal
information at their own discretion about
City’s profile page includes birth (incorporation)
date: Sept. 1, 1916; highlights of favourite local
activities (i.e. skating on rink in Civic Square);
and famous people from Kitchener (i.e. Scott
Stevens, Lennox Lewis, Jeremy Ratchford, Jeff

Through the profile page, users can update their
statuses based on what they are doing or feeling
at the moment.

Facebook also includes a News Feed function – a
running feed that appears on your home page.
City of Kitchener is reminding everyone to keep
sidewalks clear from snow and ice.
City of Kitchener asks that residents remove cars from
streets by midnight or risk being ticketed and towed.
Facebook Notes is a way for users to post
lengthier pieces of writing, similar to a blog.
The added space allows the user to include
more details in a note, as opposed to a status
update (i.e. full media releases)

Facebook users can create events. The event is
posted – making it visible to the user’s friends,
as well as others who do a search for the event.

Group organizers can post information on the
site, keeping members up to date.
City of Kitchener Staff Group has been created
exclusively for city staff to join.
City’s staff group has 55 members – more than
double the number of members in December
Planning to send out an all-departments e-mail
to staff, encouraging those on Facebook to join
the staff group.
