                                                        The first C&O RR Bridge over the Ohio at Cincinnati was completed. Construction had begun
                                                        in 1886. Designed by William H. Barr, it was considered the the forerunner for long steel truss
                                                        RR spans of the 20th Century. The 550-feet long channel span was the longest simple truss

                                                        The Central Bridge (Broadway Bridge) opened over the Ohio from Newport to Cincinnati

                                                         The Southern RR Bridge (1877) was rebuilt as a double-track structure. Larger trusses were
                                                        built around the original trusses while the bridge remained open to traffic. The old swing span
                                                        was replaced by a 370-feet long lift span operated by hydralic jacks and counterweights. The
                                                        counterweights and towers have since been removed. The bridge also had a five-feet wide
                                                        walkway, but it also has been removed. The new tracks were four feet higher than the old.

                                                        The KentuckyHighway Department in northern Kentucky began program of replacing small

                                                        The Silver Bridge disaster ocurred at Point Pleasant, WV. Forty-six persons were killed when

                                                        C&O highway spans (known to some as the Huntington Bridge) were razed by dropping into
                                                        the river. North span: 21 August. South span: 1 October. Center span: 19 October. In order
                                                        to not damage the C&O RR span, on a shared pier, the north span was pushed laterally off the
                                                        piers using hydralic jacks. Explosives were positioned on key truss members of the other

                                                        Twin I 275 bridges over the Little Miami were completed. They are twin 760-feet long

                                                        The Clay Wade Bailey Bridge was completed using some piers from the old C&O Bridge

                                                        The I 275 Bridge over the Ohio River near Lawrenceburg was dedicated as the Carroll Cropper

                                                        The Albert Schneider Bridge over the Licking River at Visalia was opened. The span was

                                                        The Combs-Hehl I 275 Bridges over the Ohio River at Coney Island opened. The twin parallel
                                                        structures were named for former Kentucky Governor Bert Combs and Campbell County

                                                        The Suspension Bridge was named a National Civil Engineering Landmark, and the designated

                                                        The Whipple truss on George Street in Aurora - built in 1887 - was placed on the Nation

                                                        A decorative cable lighting system was installed on the Roebling Bridge and dedicated during
                                                        Riverfest. The system was installed by the Garfield Electric Company of Cincinnati, and was

                                                        Twin structures carrying the Butler County Regional Highway over a county road, Gregory

                                                        Work was begun on a a fifth bridge at the Hamilton site of the Miami and the High-Main Street

                                                        Planning studies indicate that the replacement for the Brent Spence Bridge may require seven

                                                        The approved Federal Transportation bill included funds for the Waldvogel Viaduct and the
                                                        Brent Spence Bridge. $16.5 million is designated for the estimted $41 million cost (including
                                                        razing) of the viaduct. $45.6 million has been allocated toward the estimated $1.5 billion cost
