Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) Survival Guide
2006 SSS Reading, Mathematics, and Science
             2006 NRT Reading and Mathematics
                       March 9, 2006
                                              AGENDA

                                     What’s New and Different?
 This year, two separate contractors will be handling the testing:
FCAT Sunshine State Standards (SSS) Documents=Green Manual
FCAT Norm-Referenced Test (NRT) Documents=Pink Manual

 Each test administrator will be responsible for signing and submitting two security agreements (copied back to
back for your convenience). Please submit at the end of today’s meeting.

 Class codes will be assigned to Grade 8 SSS Reading and Mathematics testing locations. This code number will
appear on your class roster. The testing script will instruct students on how to record the given code in the spaces
provided on the back of their answer books. This code will be used for monitoring purposes by the Florida
  Department of Education.

 The test administrator will take roll by checking off the ―present‖ column for each day we test.

 If the student’s last name, student ID number, district number and school number are correct, even if the rest
of the information is incorrect, the student label/answer sheet will be used.

 You will be required to maintain an accurate Test Administration Log (appendix C for both the SSS and NRT). This
is a new form where any person entering your room to assist with proctoring or providing coverage will
need to sign-in and sign-out indicating the exact times he/she was in that particular testing room. As the
test administrator in that room, you will also sign-in.

 Accommodations:
o ESE students: If you bubble “Student given additional time,” you must also bubble “Scheduling.”
o LEP students: If you bubble “Additional time,” you must also bubble “flexible scheduling.”

 ELECTRONIC DEVICES: No electronic devices are permitted during testing. Possession of such devices
may be cause for invalidation. Remember to post this sign in a visible place and ask students to turn off all cell
phones prior to testing. Also, students must be reminded prior to test administration that they are not permitted to
have notes, scratch paper, or electronic devices in their possession during test administration, even if they do not
  use them.

 There are separate reference sheets for the grades 6-8 SSS mathematics portion and for grades 7-8 NRT
mathematics test. Only the correct reference sheet may be used for each test. Use of the incorrect reference
sheet on either the SSS or NRT may be cause for invalidation. All reference sheets are to be returned with your
testing materials in a separate stack.

 New language in the test administration manual provides the option of allowing students to read a book after they
have completed each session of their test. Students should not be allowed to take out a book for reading
purposes; they will simply sit quietly until everyone has finished testing. This is “Option A” in the script of
  your testing manual.

 Students should not walk to the teacher’s desk to submit their test when they are finished. The test administrator
should collect the test and other materials from each individual student.

Daily Reminders

      A. Always Count (Before, During, and After)

      B. Make sure students bubble in test form number (this is in the script)

      C. Make sure eighth grade students record the class code assigned to your testing room on the space provided
on the back cover of the answer book.

      D. Security Lists (Security Numbers have been recorded for you/Test Books have been assigned)

      E. Security numbers for the Spring 2006 FCAT will appear on all test books but only on the 8th grade
mathematics and science answer books (refer to pgs. 21-22 in your green manual). On the NRT test books,
the number will appear on the back cover of the books (refer to pgs. 18-19 in the pink manual).

      F. Adhere to the testing schedule as much as possible/Give brief stretch breaks between sessions

      G. There are brief stretch breaks built into the 8th grade SSS sessions (80 minutes each) and the 6th, 7th, and 8th
grades reading and math NRT sessions (70 minutes each).

      H. Walk and monitor students as you check for correct test form number (only one bubble should be
marked), unnecessary bubbling, correct information on the top left-hand section, stray marks,
notes/scratch paper, electronic devices and the students working on the correct sessions.

      I. Test administrator’s comment sheets should be filled out and returned with your materials.

      J. ―DNS‖ Bubble vs. ―Undo‖ Bubble

      K. Read the script verbatim (this is how mistakes are avoided). Only read the boxes that are colored and
labeled with the word, “say.” All other information is for you, the test administrator.

      L. LEP students should have access to a heritage language to English dictionary (no definitions).

      M. All ESE students must be provided with the appropriate and allowable accommodations (additional time).

      N. If a student needs to leave the room during the test, his/her test and answer booklet must be collected until
the student returns to that testing location.

      O. Report invalidations immediately to Mr. Enriquez or Ms. Valdes.

      P. Testing materials can be picked up at 7:50 a.m. in patio area next to the conference room.
