Thank you for your interest in the Aviation Program at Central Washington University.
We hope you will find the following information helpful and will call to arrange a tour of
our training facility.

Program Overview:

Central Washington University is the only university in the Pacific Northwest offering a
Bachelor of Science degree in flight technology. Our thorough academic curriculum,
conducted under FAA Part 141-approved curricula, prepares graduates for entry level
careers and leadership roles in the aviation community. Our department has earned a
reputation for training the best commercial pilots in the industry for more than 40 years.
This has allowed us to have a direct-hire program with Horizon Airlines, as well as
maintained internships with Horizon and Alaska Airlines, allowing fast placement into
the aviation industry.

Degree Options:

We offer students four technical specializations leading to a Bachelor of Science degree
in Flight Technology. The curriculum in Flight Technology is designed to provide a solid
foundation in the liberal arts as well as a through education and training in a technical
discipline. All FLT classes are by permission.

Flight Officer Specialization

Commercial Pilot Specialization

Aviation Management Specialization

Airway Science, Aviation Maintenance Management Specialization

Flight Technology Minor

Flight Training:

All of our flight training is done by our flight contractor Midstate Aviation. Midstate
Aviation has a reputation for training the best commercial pilots in the industry for more
than 40 years. Midstate offers the latest and most technologically advanced aircraft.
Providing experienced and competent instructors qualified in Part 61 and Part 141 flight
training. They also providing computer testing site, on the premises, for all applicable
FAA knowledge exams.

Training Fleet:

Midstate Aviation, Inc. has a newer advanced fleet that is meticulously maintained in our
own maintenance facility. We offer primary training in our Cessna 152s, instrument
training in our Piper Warriors, advanced commercial training in our Piper Arrows, and
Multi-Engine training in a 2006 Glass Cockpit Piper Seminole.

Flight Training Devices:

Central recently received two new flight training devices (FTD’s). They include a Baron
G58, Beech King Air 200, and a Canadair CRJ-200. The major benefits derived from
this training includes: Crew Resource Management (CRM) training, Line-Oriented Flight
Training (LOFT), Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) familiarization, HSI, RMI,
RNAV, Autopilot and Flight Director operation, and Flight Management System (FMS)
operation.

Flight Curriculum:

Our flight curriculum consists of approximately 250 hours of flying time. Students are
placed on a mandatory flight schedule for approximately 3 to 4 flights per week. Flight
fees are paid directly to our flight contractor.

Course Sequence:

Our program is set up for each student to earn a certificate or rating each year.
Students start out the freshman year obtaining their private pilot certificate, sophomore
year is spent on their instrument rating, junior year is spent on their commercial pilot
certificate, and their senior year students will obtain their certified flight instructor
certificate and their multi-engine rating.

Employment:

Many of our graduates are employed through the United States in commercial, general,
or corporate aviation. In order to work for the airlines, pilots will need to fly more hours
in addition to those flown during their training process. Most students will gain the
further flight experience through flight instructing. Central Washington University also
has a direct hire agreement with Horizon Airlines. This allows graduates to get hired
with reduced number of total hours.

Application Process:

Students must first apply for acceptance into the Flight Technology major after being
accepted into CWU. Application information and forms are available in this packet, from
CWU admissions, and the Aviation Department. Admission decisions are based on a
number of factors including grade point average, SAT/ACT scores, financial capability,
and a written statement of purpose, as outlined in the Aviation application form.
Financial Aid:

The Aviation Department works very closely with the Financial Aid office to ensure there
are funds available for our students. You may contact the Financial Aid office and they
will be able to provide you with more information about available scholarships and
federal and state financial aid. The Financial Aid Office is located in Barge Hall room
115. Their telephone number is (509) 963-1611.
