JOE CRIMI Tour Info: Captain Moses Rogers and The Steamship Savannah Break the Barrier
Historian and author John Laurence Busch will attempt to re-calibrate your mind before showing why the
Webmaster proposition of making the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean on a "steamship" was met with a mixture of
JOSEPH CICCARELLA, PE skepticism and fear.
email@example.com STEAM COFFIN has received widespread praise and acclaim, as evidenced by over ten positive
reviews in magazines and journals from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
John’s book tour for STEAM COFFIN so far has taken him from Maine to Georgia, where he has given
over 100 presentations to date before a wide variety of audiences.
Recording Secretary "Busch's supremely readable account of the development and construction of the Savannah...and the
Government Relations passionate career of Captain Moses Rogers, represents the creation of a long-needed missing piece of
DAVID A. HORNUNG PhD, PE maritime history...It may properly be termed a page-turner, and is strongly recommended." — (mt)

ASME Buffalo Section Supports BEAM Trek Competition
BEAM is a non-profit organization consisting of teachers and volunteer representatives from industry, education, government,
professional and community groups. BEAM encourages, supports and prepares students from Western New York to pursue technical
careers. BEAM is open to all students with an emphasis on minorities, females and other under-represented students. Beginning at
the elementary school level, BEAM provides math, science, engineering and technical experiences through BEAM clubs, summer
programs, Internships, and other related activities. Student participation in BEAM programs, college completion in a technical
discipline and eventual employment measure our success.
BE A M T RE K 2 0 11 Co mpetit io n was an educational adventure creating awareness and interest in engineering with a focus on
using “The Grand Challenges for Engineering.” Teams of high school students competed against one another as they were challenged
by University of Buffalo (UB) faculty to prove their scientific and mathematical mettle in a brain-teasing race around the campus. Not
knowing what to expect, students found themselves having to complete various engineering tasks where they earn points and also
learn about conservation in order to obtain clues as to where their next task lies. The adventure’s climax was a head to head
competition between the highest scoring teams in a final task. All this added to the fun with one team earning the distinction of being
“Buffalo’s Best Engineering Team of the Future”.
This year’s event was supported by a donation from the ASME Buffalo Section. The winner of the 2011 competition was a team from
Orchard Park High School. The team took first place winning six trophies and a total of $3,800 in scholarships.
