Class of 2011 Student Council Elections Candidate Statements President Ethan Samet 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: Class President 28 of 28 meetings; late 2 times We have come a long way over this past year. Thanks to all of you, our class has come together in an amazing way. Whether it was planning the Semiformal, selling class-pride sweatpants, bringing freshman opinions to the Student Council, doing community service, or working on whatever else we have done, I have been honored to lead our class through our Freshman Year. With my valuable experience, I am ready to go for Round 2. I am enthusiastic, creative, and prepared to take on a second year of the presidency. Vote Ethan Samet for Sophomore President! Ben Tillotson 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: None Not required I’m running to be our sophomore class president to: -Get our class more freedom and privileges -Plan awesome fundraisers to benefit our class and the world -Make the school more green -Make sophomore semi even better than freshman semi I promise that if elected president I will do everything in my power to make sure all of these things happen. I understand the stressful demands on students at Needham High School and I have never been hesitant to voice my classmates concerns or complaints, making me the best choice for our class president Treasurer Rebecca Nobles 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: None Not required I am responsible, trustworthy, and organized. I will meet all deadlines and communicate effectively with faculty and peers to ensure that the job gets done. I am currently a peer tutor which has given me leadership experience as well as enhanced my communication skills. If elected, I will not only keep up-to-date records of class finances, but I will also sit on committees and help to come up with fun, creative ideas for fundraising events and service projects for our grade. This past month I was involved with the Relay for Life and personally raised over $600 and last year I was part of the Pollard Empty Bowls project where we raised over $1000 for Project Bread. Moriah Okun 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: Class Treasurer 26 of 28 meetings; late 7 times I am the ideal candidate for the important job of treasurer because, as freshmen class treasurer, I proved that I am responsible and can be trusted to handle our class’ money. This past year I have contributed to both the class of 2011 as well as the student body as a whole. I am a member of the Financial Committee, which provides money for all student clubs and activities. Furthermore, as a part of the freshman class Student Council, I designed and ordered the class sweatpants, helped plan the semi-formal, and will be assisting in the sponsorship of a child in Ethiopia. I’m resourceful, experienced and responsible, and I hope to continue helping our class as sophomore class treasurer. Class of 2011 Student Council Elections Candidate Statements Vice President Josh Aliber 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: Class Representative 23 of 28 meetings; late 14 times Over the past I year I have been a representative for our class, I have learned the importance of student council in the Needham school systems. They do not just organize and plan events; they advise the administration on issues from a student’s point of view. In 2009 Student council will work to provide us with opportunities and privileges such as cell phones, and food during the first two periods. The positions of student council hold many responsibilities, from a representative to hopeful vice president I know that I am ready to hold these responsibilities and represent our class. Jess Dunning 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: None Not required; attended 25 meetings If I am elected Vice President, I promise to attend and participate in every student council meeting. I am organized, dependable, responsible and a great listener. In office I would make sure to bring the concerns of my fellow students to attention and to plan fun and exciting events that will raise money for our class. Lastly I have been on student council for four years, so I have plenty of experience. I also have great communication skills that I have gained from becoming a tutor and a peer mediator. These skills would be very helpful and useful for a Vice President. I would really appreciate your vote and I promise that I will not let you down as your Vice President! This year as representative I helped rasie money for pour class, sell class of 2011 sweatpants and plan an awesome semi! You should vote for me because I will represent all people well and be honest and smart about decisions that have to be made about your expirience here, I will also be willing to listen to your thoughts and ideas about events or fundraisers for our class. VOTE DAN FITZGERALD FOR VICE PRESIDENT OF THE CLASS OF 2011! Mike Grasso 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: No statement submitted. Class Vice President 25 of 28 meetings; late 21 times Class of 2011 Student Council Elections Candidate Statements Secretary Sophie London 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: None Not required; attended 3 meetings I’m Sophie London, and I’m thrilled to run for Secretary. Last year I ran and lost by a single vote! Proof that every vote truly matters. I didn’t let that stop me, and instead, I worked hard for our class as a volunteer. I attended nearly every Wednesday morning student council meeting and helped plan and decorate for our semi-formal. As a volunteer, I also helped order sweatpants and raise money for our class. I have fantastic ideas for next year and can’t wait to do more work for you! Vote Sophie London, Class Secretary. I’ll work hard for you! Rachel Maremont 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: Class Secretary 28 of 28 meetings; late 13 times Did you... - dance at semi-formal? - order sweatpants? - give money to orphans in Ethiopia? If your answer is yes, you know a bit about what Student Council did this year. I was your secretary and planned these activities and fundraisers, along with keeping records for meetings. I would love to be re-elected and keep working with you to have the best high school experience. Why am I qualified to represent you as secretary? My approachability, responsibility, and dedication make me stand out in a crowd. I have a year’s worth of experience which is would be beneficial. I am organized, thoughtful, and bring both good humor and good sense to the table. I value your opinions greatly and this year put in place a number of ways to communicate with the class. MAKE THE “WRITE” CHOICE - vote Rachel for secretary! Ariel Sherry 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: None Not required Every class has a goal, a goal to be the best class possible. However, this can’t be reached without ideas, communication, and organization. If elected secretary, I am prepared to achieve this goal. I am hardworking, organized, creative, and responsible. I always get jobs done on time and I am a determined worker. But most of all, I am eager to represent our class and make sure that our ideas are heard. My goal is to serve our class as secretary; I hope you’ll let this be one step towards becoming the best class possible. Class of 2011 Student Council Elections Candidate Statements Class Representative Ryan DiNatale 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: None Not required As class representative, I would be willing to step up and fill in the position of any missing members. I also was a member of student council before, so I have some experience. Some ideas I would like to propose would be for us to gain back our sophomore privileges, which would allow us to miss studies if we want to, and we would be able to leave for lunch. Another idea would be for cell phones to be allowed between classes, because it isn’t taking away from anyone’s learning, and it makes communication easier. I would also make a good class representative, because I would be willing to share new ideas for fund raisers, and I’d also be wiling to participate in some events, cutting some of the costs for dances, etc. Finally if I am elected people can come to me if they have ideas, and I will try and put in their word in the following student council meeting. Kevin Lynch 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: No statement submitted Taylor Thomas 2007-2008 Student Council position: Student Council meeting attendance: None Not required Class Representative 27 of 28 meetings; late 11 times Hey, I’m Taylor Thomas and this year I am running to be re-elected as your student council representative. In having been a part of the student council this year I helped raise money for our class and planned many fun events, but next year I want to do even more. I am fully prepared to represent our class again next year and will listen to any ideas you have. I am running to be your representative as my first priority and want to help make our grade great. Please vote for me, thank you!
